I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master's Degree in Community Mental Health. I have over 10 years of mental health experience working with adolescents, adults and families. Much of my experience and passion is embedded in working with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, self-esteem, relationship difficulties, women's issues and trauma. Additionally, I have a special connection and interest in working with military families and consider it a small way to give back to our service members and their families.

I specialize in anxiety, attachment, LGBTQA+ struggles, PTSD and trauma, dissociation, and families working through pre and post adoption struggles.
Does going out in public with your child feel like an impossible task? Do you feel guilt over your child's meltdowns or teen's isolation? Do you feel like doctors, teachers, and other adults just don't get it? Do you worry about their safety? Are you overcome with guilt looking at other families on Facebook and Instagram? Parents want to feel like things are under control; that your family can be happy and have productive evenings, and that your child can transition to school and activities, feel confident, have friendships, and like themselves.

My clients are adults and adolescents who tend to identify themselves as highly sensitive, perfectionistic, and self-critical. They often feel intense emotions and have active minds that always seem to be "on". Using strengths-based, solution-focused, and mindfulness approaches, I help individuals learn to step back and notice their thoughts and feelings rather than be controlled by them. In addition to alleviating the symptoms of anxiety, depression, and trauma, these skills allow people to connect with their values and pursue what's important to them.

I strive to provide a place of safety and security for those seeking emotional and mental wellness by building meaningful relationships with my clients. I enjoy working with trauma survivors while they find a new way of living with their past. I like to look at a person from a system perspective. What system (family or otherwise) did you grow up with? What does that look like now? What changes can you make in your system to create healthier boundaries and more meaningful relationships? Other experience: anxiety, depression, grief. Adults and Couples. Youth considered with family involvement (15+ preferred). I offer telehealth only.

My specialties include anxiety spectrum disorders, fears both rational and irrational, self-esteem issues, trauma and adoption issues .
I believe throughout our lives, from childhood to adulthood there are circumstances that cause us to lose sight of our true authentic self. I value taking time to develop a therapeutic relationship based on trust in a safe environment. My sessions are casual, and I enjoy working as a team in developing goals and strategies. When working with children, I like to use play based techniques and movement to assist in regulation while discussing stressful topics. My client base consists of children, teens, young adults transitioning into adulthood and adults dealing with stressors that impact day to day functioning.

From trauma, anxiety and depression to adjustment, racial and generational trauma, relationships and overall stress.
I believe balance, healing, and growth is possible and I'd like to help you on your journey to discover those things. My job as the therapist is to be a guide of sorts but YOU are in the driver seat. It isn't always easy reaching out for help, but I'm glad you're here doing just that. My passion is working with individuals who have survived traumas in their lives. I hope to help you gain a better connection to the skills and strength you inherently have while developing resiliency. Additionally, I am dedicated to working with the Bi-POC, LGBTQIA, and other underserved populations.

Have you experienced trauma in your life, whether a childhood abuse, a natural disaster, an auto accident, or military? Any of these can create anxiety, depression and a host of other symptoms.
What are you looking for in a therapist? A supportive, trusted voice? An empathetic ear? A sense of humor? Someone who's therapy space creates both safety...and confidence? I strive to bring all of the above to my clientele. I'm a Marriage and Family Therapist, with a family of my own. As I bring my practical experience of marriage (and raising kids) to my practice, I am continually inspired by the courage and open-heartedness of my clients; as we set out, co-conspiring toward change and healing. I use a wholistic, trauma-informed, integrative approach to therapy, tailored to the unique needs of each individual.
Has shame kept you in silence? Have circumstances robbed you of your peace? Are you struggling to cope with the stressors in your life? Do you feel like no one understands you or that you don’t fit in? Do you feel alone, overwhelmed, hopeless, angry, worthless, anxious, in constant pain, or out of control? Have you been hurt by people or systems that are supposed to help you? Trauma can shake the very foundation of our sense of well-being, safety, and belonging. And shame can hinder us from living the life we want and deserve. Whatever you find yourself struggling with, you don't need to suffer in silence or walk this journey alone.

I work with individuals ages 10+. My approach to treatment focuses on trauma-informed care (TIC). This approach helps identify and address trauma's impact on the various parts of an individual's life. I value and understand the influence of people's culture on their mental health. It's important to know an individual's home/work environment and support system to develop appropriate and achievable treatment goals.

Clearing past trauma can allow you to live, love and pursue your goals in the now rather than living in reaction to the past. Eliminating triggers for using substances can help you get and stay sober.I have used EMDR to help people with just about any MH issue with great success. In addition, I have a background that I feel allows me to be of special help to veterans, emergency responders, survivors of sexual assault and anyone who struggles with shame or guilt for any reason. EMDR in conjunction with Trauma informed guilt reduction therapy can be very healing. See website: rwesttherapy.com

These issues may include losses, trauma, past/current abuse, homelessness, joblessness, depression and anxiety as well as a general inability to cope with what life is like for you now.
"Whatever we think we believe. Whatever we believe becomes reality. Whatever is our reality becomes the basis for our hopes, fears and choices." Dhammapada. Sometimes the first step in improving our life situation is asking for help. But once that first step is taken, even if it is taken out of desperation, our willingness to make changes can lead to lives filled with hope, joy and peace. My experience is with individuals who experience a variety of life problems, particularly addiction; the issues that arise from addiction and those that led to addiction.

I cannot think of a single person who hasn't hit a bump in the road of life. We all have this happen- you know, times when we go a bit off track. Maybe, it is difficulty at home or couples constantly arguing. Maybe parents and children are not getting along. Perhaps it is more personal: you are just not feeling quite right, are feeling down and depressed, or are anxious and disorganized. Maybe you are struggling with past hurts or trauma. I am here to help.

My first ten years as a psychotherapist were spent in New Orleans, where I worked, in part, to provide support and healing to members of a community ravaged by the traumas of Hurricane Katrina and the BP Oil Spill. This experience equipped me to serve people within the context of dramatic and disruptive life changes. I collaborate with my clients to manage their symptoms, transform the effects of trauma and grief, address creatively relationship issues, career changes and artistic blocks, and engender personal growth.

Winter blues? Bored and have more free time and don't know what to do? Life transitions? Going to college? Low mood? Anxiety and worry? Seasonal depression kicking in? I see adults individually who have struggled with anxiety, depression, trauma/ stress related events in their life. I can offer Tele-health options so you can feel safe going through the therapeutic process. My treatment approach is a lot more more person-centered. It can take some time to build trust within the therapeutic relationship.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
