I work with people who, for a variety of reasons, feel stuck. Stuck in anxiety, stuck in a mood they cannot escape, stuck in a job or relationship they do not find satisfying, stuck remembering an event or experience they cannot forget, or stuck in a sense that their lives lack movement and a sense of meaningful direction. Psychotherapy with me is process of identifying the pattern that has led to one's feelings of immobilization. Through focusing on thoughts, feelings, dreams, and fantasies, that which was once only faintly noticed is given a voice and expression; leading to a sense of purposefulness and direction.
My practice is psychoanalytically oriented and works with an individual to move back and forth through understanding the personal, developmental aspects to one's experience along with the larger archetypal forces that inevitably impact us. Movement and meaning emerge when we find ways to dive into the disorganized aspects to our experience.
I am the Director of Clinical Psychology at Mount Sinai's School of Medicine where I treat first responders in the WTC Mental Health Program. I earned my doctorate from The New School, and spent years training at NYC hospitals including Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital.
