Hello there. I have been in practice providing psychotherapy to adults and adolescents since 1994. Some clients see me briefly for focused concerns such as life transitions or work/school issues. Others who seek my help have been struggling with longer term depression/anxiety, effects of past trauma, or problematic relationship patterns, for many years. In either case I work from a psychoanalytic framework, using the power of the here and now therapy relationship to explore how peoples' unconscious thoughts color their experience of themselves and others. Over time this work often leads to deep, lasting life changes.
I typically work individually with patients, with the exception of parent consultation while working with adolescents. I have learned through experience the importance of meeting consistently, usually once or twice a week, to create the safety needed to explore feelings, thoughts, and memories which have fallen out of awareness.
In addition to having experience with common concerns such as depression, anxiety, and relationship issues, I also have worked a lot with different forms of trauma. I think the therapist-patient match is extremely important. Most people find me easy to talk with, and I think you'll know if this is true for you in the first session or two.
