As a Licensed Independent Social Worker, my goal is to meet you where you are, build a strong therapeutic relationship, and develop treatment plans that are specific to you as an individual. I work with adults (17+) who have anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, chronic pain and illnesses, grief, suicidal thoughts and self harm, and with military and veteran populations. If you are struggling, I want to assist and support you in reaching your treatment goals.

It is my pleasure to work with adult patients 18+ years old as a faith based therapist. Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) for anxiety, panic, depression, PTSD, grief, abuse, AD/HD and personality disorders is available for individuals. As a National Certified Parenting Coordinator I also work with parenting, family, couple issues, blended families, co-parenting and divorcing couples who want to work toward agreements that result in the best interest of their child(ren).

I enjoy working with individuals to help them uncover patterns of behavior or thinking that are interfering with their personal growth. By addressing the underlying issues that are creating problems, you will be able to create lasting change and transformation. I welcome clients working through life issues including; depression, anxiety, grief, relationship concerns, self-esteem, trauma, parenting, marital issues, and behavioral issues to name a few. In addition to individual therapy, I also offer couples and family therapy where we will work together to develop a functional system that will serve your individual needs.

After earning a Master's in Social Work from the University of South Carolina in 2003, I began working at Steppingstones as a group therapist. While I am not recovering from a substance use disorder myself, I have an extensive understanding of the progression of addiction, the process of recovery, and family dynamics of addiction. In addition to addiction treatment experience, I find fulfillment working with the various issues faced by emergency responders, including law enforcement officers, paramedics and fire fighters, as well as people seeking help for mental health concerns.

Through counseling, I help individuals find practical ways to experience some relief from the stress life brings. Whether you want to learn skills to handle anxiety or feel held back from reaching your goals, I provide a safe and accepting environment for individuals to grow. I understand worry can weigh you down and finding a work-life balance can be difficult. Utilizing empathy, understanding, and support, I aim to help you gain the skills to handle life's ups and downs. I believe each person is unique and I take a client-centered approach to treatment, where clients are at the forefront of the therapeutic process.

I believe there are many people who suffer silently. It can be difficult to reach out for help, especially when feeling alone, vulnerable, misunderstood, or hopeless. I often work with adults who have been struggling with their sense of self, though they appear "okay" to others. Many of my clients have recent or past unresolved trauma and/or childhood issues that have never been fully resolved. Many who reach out to me desperately want to heal but feel stuck and don't know how to move forward.

Trauma impacts our relationships. It's that simple. If your sexual assault makes it hard to be touched, if events from your childhood leave you afraid to trust, if the way your ex treated you is ruining things for you now: you're experiencing that impact. It may feel like a lot, but having the type of relationships you want (laugh 'til you cry, hot sex, deep emotional connection, whatever!) is totally achievable. You don't have to feel embarrassed by what you've gone through or scared to speak it out loud. Vulnerability, authenticity, and healthy connection are waiting for you and you don't have to find them on your own.

I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker with a proven background as a clinical practitioner. I completed a Master of Social Work degree from Howard University in 1979. My formal education and training coupled with many years of hands-on experiences have driven my practice skills. I have worked in many areas of social work, as well as working with different populations. Since 2009, my primary focus has been working with the diverse elderly population in managed care and long-term care settings.

Charlie’s background includes working in acute psychiatric care, assessment/diagnoses, and psychotherapy in both inpatient and outpatient settings. He is also experienced working with trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, PTSD, ADHD, and many other mental health concerns.
