Healthy sexuality is our objective in sexual addiction. Sex is an integral and balanced part of life experience. Sexual behaviors become problematic when they violate vows and values, are dishonest, harmful to others, put you at risk, diminishes your joy in life, act as a barrier filled with shame, self-contempt, and isolation. Sexual health creates intimacy and closeness, characterized by trust, respect, joy and safety. Sexual health can be achieved by sex addicts in recovery. The trauma and addiction model identifies the trauma and internal system that underwrites addiction and does not view problematic behavior as moral failure.

We work very closely with clients that are dealing with both mental health and substance use disorders. We work with people in all walks of life. We assist those that are currently in reentry from being incarcerated. We work with first responders that are dealing with grief or trauma as I am a former law enforcement officer.

On this course I will help you identify and cope more effectively with problems in daily living and to deal with inner conflicts which may disrupt your ability to function effectively. A very important aspect of counseling is the relationship that builds between the client and the counselor. This may be the only time and place where you can take front and center stage, be actually “heard”, and be in the presence of someone who is non-judgmental.

I have a special interest in working with those in the helping professions, including (but not limited to) teachers, therapists, and medical professionals. We have a knowledge that it wasn’t meant to be this way and feel compelled to take the first steps toward wholeness but sometimes don’t know where to begin. Through compassion and empathy, I partner with clients to begin their healing journey. I seek first to understand their story, providing a safe and secure place to process the pain. It is my core belief that no problem is too messy and no challenging situation is without hope.

Children can be exposed to multiple sources of discomfort. It's not unusual for children who are experiencing discomfort for it to show up in their behavior, handling adjustments, or in their ability to self-regulate. This might look like the child experiencing anxiety, sadness, anger, lack of social connection, etc. My goal is for children to leave my practice with the skills to believe in their abilities, interact effectively and meaningfully with others, regulate emotions, and ultimately be more adaptable and flexible to the events of life.

My practice is client centered, directed at meeting a person exactly where they are at on their current journey. It is a strength based approach and I am committed to cultivating and highlighting the resources one has within themselves to increase resiliency, balance, and joy.

As a person who has had his fair share of life's challenges, I found the counsel of a professional was life changing. I believe everyone is capable of change, and everyone can be successful. I believe above all else shame and guilt are the fuel that keep your problem cycling. Deshaming, celebrating successes, and setting goals are the key to moving forward. You can overcome addiction, anxiety, depression, relational conflict, or any other issue in your life.

The gift of therapy lies in the journey for both client and therapist. It is my belief that therapy is most effective when those involved allow themselves to be impacted by right relationship with the other. Only through right relationship, co-regulation and genuine empathy can true healing occur.

I work with individuals with a wide range of concerns. My clinical specialties and interests include disordered eating, body image, obesity and weight loss, LGBTQ, gender identity, phase of life transitions, grief/loss, relationships, assertive communication, issues related to trauma/adverse life experiences, holistic health and wellness, self-compassion, and promoting self-awareness and insight. My background includes significant experience in the delivery of behavioral health care including individual psychotherapy and inpatient, intensive-outpatient, and outpatient groups. In addition to my experience with psychotherapy services, I also complete psychological assessments, provide supervision to pre-doctoral psychology interns, and consultation services.

I believe counseling is a partnership in which we work together in developing and implementing a plan to reach the clients treatment goals. Each client is unique and different, and I adjust according to the clients needs. I work well with clients who are ready to do the work to heal and grow. The client and I are active throughout the counseling process. I have found that this process is a journey towards healing and thriving in all areas of life. Many of my clients have found themselves stuck in life. I help clients find what is keeping them stuck and develop the skills to overcome these barriers so they might heal and grow.

My goals are to provide a safe space and place of acceptance to my clients. I also work to help them reach empowerment to make positive changes in their lives. I believe in the abilities people hold inside and find it important to validate their experience. Looking for help on our journey in life is a sign of real strength. Hi! My name is Jennifer. I've been helping people manage mental health for over five years. I started out working with people who were struggling to overcome ongoing trauma and substance use. I've since worked with a variety of people of all ages (from age 3 to 70) and have seen people get better at handling stress, managing moods, and coping with life in general. One of my favorite jobs was working as a therapist at a children and family center and being able to help parents deepen and better their relationships with their children.
