There are times when life is hard. You feel misunderstood, ignored, and lonely. You stop talking to your friends and family because your thoughts and feelings don’t seem to matter anyway. You feel that other people’s needs are more important than your own so you’ve put your needs aside and continue to give to those around you. All the giving has left you feeling empty and numb. Sometimes you feel like you are an observer of your own life and you don’t know what the next step is. All you know is that you can’t go on feeling like you do and that something needs to change.

I believe that each individual has within themselves the ability to conquer their issues, and sometimes they need that support and guidance to find that ability or to develop that ability. I am a guiding counselor who provides supportive listening to help each child, teen, adult, couple, and family find a solution to the problems they are facing. I love helping others find the peace they are searching for or to help others develop the skills they need to function in life better.

I have worked in the counseling field for over 10 years now and continue to learn from every client I come in contact with. I offer both individual and group therapy for adults and adolescents who are seeking treatment for depression, anxiety, trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), behavioral issues, domestic violence, self-confidence building, relationship improvement, addictions to drugs and/or alcohol, and co-occurring disorders. I approach treatment with evidence-based practices, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure Therapy, and Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT).

I work with clients that are dealing with life transitions, experienced trauma, or other issues, and want to be their best selves and live fulfilling lives. My work is shaped by my training and experience. I am currently specializing in adults and adolescents who suffer with anxiety and/or depression issues, including life changes and transitions which can often be difficult to face without help. I work with persons in recovery from substance use and other addiction-related issues, such as family members of those in active addiction or recovery. Additionally, I enjoy working with children and families who are involved in the adoption process. I have had and continue to have extensive training, experience, and supervision in all of these areas with other professionals in the field.

Spencer embodies a collaborative, non-judgmental approach to therapy as the necessary foundation for developing therapeutic rapport and an environment that fosters our inherent ability for healing.
