I provide a safe, non-judgmental environment to allow adults and adolescents to comfortably express and process their thoughts and feelings. I believe that therapy is a collaborative effort between the client and their therapist. It is a way for someone to explore what they are feeling or thinking, which can help them learn more about themselves and make positive life changes.

A common misconception of Art Therapy is that it requires artistic skill however this is not true! I offer Art Therapy, traditional talk therapy, or a blend of the two tailored to fit your needs. My clients often share a willingness to explore, create, and challenge comfort zones while I assist with art making and guiding therapeutic discussion. Some examples of goals that can be addressed in art therapy are increased communication skills and self-esteem; decreased anxiety, depression, anger, and stress; and processing of relationships and events.

Life can be very stressful, and different things may bring someone to therapy. I provide a safe place to explore and learn, as I offer my compassion and support through your journey. I have a lot of experience with stress and/or trauma, as well as relationship issues. I tend to be gentle, compassionate, offer solutions and homework assignments, but realize deep down you have the answers, and are hard wired to heal under the right circumstances. I see primarily individuals and couples due to my schedule being strictly daytime (business hours)

Unfortunately previous negative experiences with counseling can impact one's decision to seek out treatment again. Therapy isn't about walking into a room because of needing to be "fixed". Therapy is a collaborative approach that begin's with me creating a safe, comfortable, and non judgmental environment. I will always recognize the person before the behavior that we are working to change. My hope at the end of each session is to assist with enhancing your strengths to elicit long term change.

Many of us have been emotionally wounded by family members, friends, loved ones, co-workers, and/or strangers. Psychological suffering can take on many forms, showing up in our thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and relationships. Sometimes it can be experienced as sadness, depression, worry, anxiety, etc. This form of suffering, while painful, often points to the parts of ourselves that invite healing. And while the challenges of living with such experiences can be immense, they also present opportunities for growth. The truth is that you can find peace of mind, solace in your heart, and live joyfully, regardless of your past.

I am a licensed clinical social worker with extensive experience in working with individuals who are struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship or family issues. While I use a multifaceted approach when working with clients, I have found that mindfulness and cognitive behavioral therapy together provide the most benefit. Because our relationships with ourselves and others have been so heavily influenced by what we learned in our family of origin, I also help clients to understand how these family dynamics impact various aspects of life.

Mental health has a stigma. It implies that someone who is struggling needs help from a therapist just to return back to their baseline. At Mental Fitness, however, we want to help you achieve more than that. We do this by challenging our clients to remove self-limiting beliefs, master their emotions, and improve their relationships. Beyond just listening and validating, we offer guidance and structure to inspire you to achieve your best self. Here at Mental Fitness, we truly believe, “If you master your thinking, you master your life!”

Change can come in many forms in our lives. It might come suddenly like a tidal wave, or gradually like a slow dripping leak. It might come in the form of devastating tragedy, difficult choices, broken relationships, or even new opportunities. Although change can be extremely hard, it can also be extremely necessary. Experiencing anything great in life requires us to challenge ourselves to push past our comfort zones. However, we oftentimes avoid change out of fear of the unknown, or self-doubt. Other times, we don’t realize the need for change until we experience pain.

I am a licensed counselor with over 20 years experience working with individuals to address various mental health needs. I take a collaborative approach, working with clients to help them develop a “tool box” to address obstacles related to depression, anxiety, marital and family issues, and adjustment to any changes life may throw their way. I have an interest in working with adult women facing periods of transition, such as moving from school into the work force, and navigating changes in interpersonal relationships, career, or family responsibilities. I also enjoy working with clients seeking a faith-based approach to therapy.

All of us are trying to get somewhere, to find meaning, love, and fulfillment, to make our hopes a reality. Yet sometimes no matter how hard we try, we can't change our lives in ways that we want. What we don't realize is that our very efforts to keep things together can actually keep us asleep to new horizons. Maybe this sounds familiar to you: You feel stuck in your drinking or drug use, your relationship, pornography, or other sexual behaviors that are causing problems you desperately want to wake up from.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
