TESTIMONIAL. Prior to meeting Pamela Goffman I was desperately seeking a psychotherapist who could help me with my deep depression and feelings of emptiness and loneliness. For a period of five years I counseled with four different therapists to seek peace in my life. My life was a mess during my five year search, I had hit rock bottom. It had to be divine intervention that lead me to Pamela Goffman. While the four previous therapists talked me through my immediate issue(s), Pamela quickly identified the core of my pain and we began our journey of healing together.

Prolonged exposure to/with pain can negatively impact how we feel about ourselves and others.
Hello my name is Cheryl Foxworth. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and AAMFT Approved Supervisor in Pennsylvania. For over 20-years I have worked with families in distress. I believe that most often the negative experiences we have in childhood corrupts our true sense of being. These early childhood issues often results in a disconnect with our true self. How tragic this can be but there is hope. I would love to think that "What does not kill us will only make us stronger. " This is a quote from philosopher Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche that has become my personal mantra. We must learn how to live beyond our hurt....

My clients are dreaming of a better world but feel stuck in a world that is causing them great pain . They are passionate about change, both for themself and for the world around them, but might not know where or how to start. If this sounds like you, I want to offer you support in figuring out what change can even look like and how to reach towards it. I can't offer you "the answers" but I can offer you my belief in your ability to change yourself and your world, if you choose it. I view this change process as starting with self, connecting with community, and finally engaging in systems change.

Relaxation is also important, possible benefits are: lower blood pressure, increased immunity, decreased pain , and stress levels.
Throughout life's journey, there are many paths, some more challenging than others. As we learn to make healthy habits part on of our lives, we become happier and more fulfilled in other areas. Counseling can help one work through many challenges such as: Stress, Depression, Anxiety, Work-Related Issues, Adolescent stressors (I have been working with adolescents for over 20 years in various settings), Parenting Issues, such as the unique challenges mother's of multiples encounter (I have personal experience with this, as I have twin boys), Grief and Loss,Pre-marital counseling,Marriage and Family difficulties, and Wellness.

My clients sometimes don't know what else to do. They may have tried traditional interventions. They have anxiety, grief, pain , phobias, addictions, eating disorders. They may be children whose parents will do anything to help them. My clients may have heard about hypnosis but aren't sure what it is. They may be LGBT & find a society that won't let them be who they are. My clients may be bullied & want to know how to "fight" back. They want to feel better, but more than that..how to be well, how to take this tool of Hypnosis out of their "toolbox" & use it for life. They believe in mind over matter. They are going to contact me!

Through skillfully and respectfully tending to the layers of pain that have accumulated throughout your life, I can help clear the way for you to access the well of strength that is, and has always been, within you.
Feeling overwhelmed or stuck? Are you struggling with a life transition? Do you experience difficulties in relationships? Maybe you feel stuck in emotional or behavioral patterns that seem to be holding you back. I provide a welcoming, accepting space and offer skills to help you achieve more clarity, confidence and connection in your life. My life and work have taught me that we all suffer and struggle. But they've also shown me that we all possess within us a well of wisdom, resilience, and compassion. The suffering we endure can make it very difficult to access this inherent strength. We can easily become lost, disconnected.

Your life has become exhausting. You have so much to do and your efforts never feel like they are enough. You would like to take time to slow down and focus on yourself for a change, but when will that realistically happen? There will always be something else to get done and you can’t seem to catch a break. Maybe your pain is taking the driver's seat, unsure of when your next flare up will strike. Maybe you've made your world smaller in hopes of having more control, but things continue to feel not quite right. You feel stuck in this place for what feels like an eternity and feeling uncertain about the future has become your jam.

How can I find a therapist in Pennsylvania?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
