Unresolved pain and unnamed hungers in our lives create serious ruptures in our here and now. Disruptive mood patterns and compulsions are signs of emotional injury that deserve a space to be held and cared for. Therapy is a place for this work and can be the site where the mind, body, & spirit become a family again. I support folx through a healing and relational framework to re-connect with values, in hopes to take committed action towards goals and wishes. My practice focuses on the mental wellness needs of the Asian-American community and men struggling with toxic hook-up culture and intimacy in relationships.

You came to therapy because something doesn’t feel quite right; you would like to make changes, and you believe life could be different. My role as a therapist encompasses both supporting you in healing and challenging you to grow. I have experience in helping clients who would like to heal from traumas, manage their emotions and behaviors more effectively, and those who would like to build a respectful and compassionate relationship with food and their body. I also hold a special interest in helping clients who are navigating various identities and experiences as immigrants, children of immigrants, and international individuals.

However you show up, tired, frustrated, sad, or cheerful, I will welcome you with acceptance, understanding, and care. This is a patient, honest, and nonpejorative space for us to work through difficult experiences while helping you feel accepted, safe, and secure in yourself and your relationships. I use an integrated approach to help bring out the best in you through discovering strengths, talents, inner richness, beauty, and worth that was previously buried, and recognizing, understanding, and changing ineffective approaches to life's challenges. You will find inner capacity and a sense of agency in emotionally laden situations.

Some people think that seeking psychological support or help indicates a weakness in character. In truth, it takes much courage to seek help! It is completely normal to seek help in our life's journey as we may face unexpected obstacles, challenges, and traumatic experiences. When we are faced with such experiences, we may feel stuck, frustrated, exhausted, and discouraged. In our work together, I strive to listen empathically, be attuned to your emotions, and provide encouragement to life's challenges. At opportune moments, I may provide psychoeducation and research findings to complement the counseling process.

Too many life stressors may lead to unfocused work and/or frequent "crisis management" interventions. In collaboration, we identify presenting issues, prioritize problems, and clarify treatment goals for positive changes. I offer brief treatment (8-12 sessions) and long-term therapy (6 months+). For brief treatment, the average number of sessions needed is typically 8-12. For complex and persistent issues, more sessions might be needed. By maintaining congruence, genuineness, and unconditional warm regard, I build a trusting and supportive relationship with you.

"Does this support the life I am trying to create?" is a question I ask myself daily. It is important to me that our therapeutic relationship fosters a safe, accepting, and collaborative space by exploring resilience, strengths, and informed curiosity. I strive to facilitate self-empowerment and self-efficacy through adaptive coping/behavioral skills, strengthening cognitive insight, while honoring that change is hard when life gets rough. My work with individuals who have felt unheard and invalidated has led me to conceptualize concerns related to eating disorders, anxiety, depression, and substance use as closely intertwined.

Marc Maron said "90% of the world's problems are personal. So let's get into it." I believe that everyone deserves therapy- even you, and that when we see ourselves clearly, it benefits everyone we encounter. If you try to do good for others without honestly knowing yourself, you're likely to have impact that you don't intend. If you're reluctant to seek support for yourself, let's talk. It is very important to me to be affirming of all genders and expressions, and to be an active anti-racist ally.

I believe that the power of therapy is driven by the forging of a genuine connection between client and therapist, and that healing happens in collaboration. I also believe that the ways in which we are socialized has a profound impact on how we show up in the world and our relationships with others. Change and growth are often rooted in understanding and unpacking that process. My style is active, compassionate and direct. I work primarily from an intersectional feminist, contextual approach and am devoted to relational justice in the therapy room and beyond.

It’s hard to pin down what’s wrong exactly, but something is wrong. Life is starting to feel out of control, and you don’t know how to get back on track. Maybe you’re a frustrated parent, and you’re worried about the direction your child’s life is taking. This probably isn’t your first time considering therapy, but you’re hoping something changes this time. Let’s make that change together.

I believe that it is necessary to interact with clients as feeling, thinking, and embodied beings; therapy must address each person holistically and relationally in all aspects: emotional, cognitive, and behavioral. Therapy can help us make sense of our selves, our world, our relationships, our personal stories and the paths we take - other words, how to live life as our best, fulfilling selves. A former high school and university teacher, I have a passion for working with adolescents & young adults. I also have a keen interest in working on men's issues, helping men and those close to them to live more in-touch and connected lives.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
