I have a particular interest in working with people who have grown up with or are currently living with a narcissistic/self-absorbed family member.
I have been a therapist for over 30 years, seeing individuals, couples, and families. My goal as a therapist is to connect with what you're going through so that I can help you understand and empower yourself more completely. Managing transitions and huge life shifts can create feelings of anxiety and loss of identity - like having the rug pulled out from under us. Despite living in unpredictable times, we can still find our strength and resilience. There is a way to feel safe while being in touch with your natural vulnerability.

Are you feeling stuck in the aftermath of a difficult or traumatic experience—whether it happened recently or years ago? You may notice that certain situations, interactions, or even subtle reminders trigger intense emotional or physical reactions that feel out of proportion or hard to control. Many people wonder, "Why can’t I just get over this?". The truth is, trauma isn’t something you simply move past—it’s something your mind and body continues to respond to until it’s fully processed.

As a psychotherapist since 1995 I firmly believe a "good fit" between client and therapist is key to their success. I love integrating over 30 years of experience with my extensive training in Nueroplasticity, the nervous system and somatics. In therapy we’ll address not only your current issues but their source. Therapy is a collaborative experience at Life Guidance. It takes time to identify, process, manage, appropriately express if not resolve issues related to interpersonal conflicts, stress, anxiety, depression, life transitions, trauma, unhealthy relationships/work place, parenting, and breaking inter-generational trauma.

Your most well-intentioned friend or internet guru might have you believe that fixing your problems is a quick process that involves simple mantras and just doing things differently. In contrast, I believe that it is possible in time and in the context of developing a genuine and safe therapeutic relationship, for you to feel understood, cared for and free to express yourself while creating change. My clinical experience lies in helping those through relationship troubles, uncomfortable and painful feelings, addiction to substances, feelings of depression and anxiety, or just a quiet sense that something is not right.

I am certified in Narcissistic Abuse Survivor Treatment, undertaking this training with The Institute of Relational Harm Reduction.
Often, when we connect with therapists, we present with clear issues we want to address. Other times, we could be struggling to interpret how a life event may be affecting us. When I work with a client, I like to know and understand that person deeply, including where they feel they are now in life, and how is it they got here, to this point. We will delve into moments in your earlier life that you believe may hold some importance, some current relevance, what I term the echo of our pasts. It is this exploration that makes therapy both enlightening and releasing.

Hi, I’m Jessica — a Licensed Professional Counselor dedicated to helping you reconnect with yourself. I’m passionate about supporting individuals as they identify and shift patterns that no longer serve them, heal from toxic or unbalanced relationships, and rediscover their true identity. Do you feel like there’s never enough time to care for yourself? Are you giving so much to others that you feel drained, with little left for you? Have you noticed that some relationships are one-sided, leaving you feeling unheard or crossing your personal boundaries? You don’t have to navigate these challenges alone.

From an early age I have been intrigued by the human mind and how it works. This interest has been enhanced through my study of psychology and human behavior. Psychotherapy remains a complex although understandable endeavor. That doesn't mean it's easy-for either client or therapist. If you, as the client is committed to doing the work in therapy, the process will promote tremendous change and growth over time-even though most of us yearn for a quick, painless cure!

What sets me apart is my experience with subjects like narcissism and healing from narcissistic abuse; infertility journeys, as well as many ways that I work within the LGBTQ community.
One of the first questions I ask new clients is "If you have had therapy previously, what has worked for you and what did you wish was different?" This is because I always want to meet you where you are and not repeat things that have delayed progress in the past.

The funny thing about life's hurts, they generally do not just get better on their own. Running from a problem is a race we will never win. My goal is to create a warm, safe and relaxed place for you to explore, to discuss, to learn and maybe laugh. The outcome is for you to feel empowered in your life and to have HOPE. Changing or healing often require learning new skills so my approach is as much about coaching as it is about counseling. My primary counseling modes are Cognitive Diffusion and REBT (Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy) and Mindfulness. Together we create the tools for HOPE that are custom made for you.

Narcissistic Personality (NPD) Therapists
What type of therapy is best for narcissistic personality disorder?
Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is best treated with talk therapy, which could involve cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, schema therapy, gestalt therapy, or similar approaches. A therapist will help a patient uncover the feelings that may drive their behavior and discover how to engage with themselves and those around them with greater empathy and understanding, fewer demands, and less defensiveness, with the goal of developing a more authentic sense of self that enables healthier relationships.

How do therapists treat NPD?
By developing a strong therapeutic relationship, and continually focusing patients on relationships, community, and connection, a therapist, through talk therapy, may be able to help someone with NPD change. In sessions, a therapist will help an individual achieve relief from their current stressors, including the treatment of co-occurring conditions such as anxiety or depression. A therapist may also help an individual to recognize unhealthy coping mechanisms, learn new ways of interacting with others, and eventually become able to feel and display empathy.

Can a narcissist be cured with therapy?
Therapy can be effective. After a serious setback or great loss, someone with NPD may be forced to recognize that they are not immune to life’s challenges. That can spur feelings of melancholy and depression that lead them to seek professional help. Once an individual decides to seek help, they have already taken a step that the majority of those with NPD never will. Still, people with NPD often quit therapy as they naturally resist feeling vulnerable, being challenged, or admitting to flaws.

How can you get narcissistic personality disorder treatment for someone?
It is notoriously difficult to convince someone with NPD to seek help. With their feelings of superiority, they may be unlikely to recognize or acknowledge that they have a problem, or that their problem is narcissism. Sometimes, they are aware that they are arrogant and that others resent them but they don’t see it as a problem because they are convinced of their superiority. People with NPD have trouble maintaining relationships, but family members and others who do feel close to them, and whose presence they value, may be able to encourage them to seek therapy.
