Previously, Ra’eesa provided physical, emotional and educational support during pregnancy and labor and also she provided supportive counseling around adjustment to illness, hospitalization and outpatient care. She believes that therapy helps to remind people that their light continues to shine in the dark, and that the darkness has not overcome it.

With a personal background in recurrent pregnancy loss and infertility, my specialties involve grief, loss, trauma, infertility, women's issues, and more.
My ideal client is one who is open and curious. Their issues, needs and goals may vary or evolve over time, but the primary objective is to work collaboratively to explore any conscious or unconscious thoughts and feelings that may gain better insight into behaviors, patterns and/or relational concerns. Our work will create a space that is nurturing, safe and secure. This means being able to speak freely, without judgment or fear of being unheard or unseen. This can be uncomfortable for some, having to be vulnerable. My goal is to provide a safety net to help individuals as they lean into vulnerability to create a path of healing.

Specializing in anxiety, relationships, parenting, pregnancy and postpartum, I integrate psychodynamic, attachment, behavioral, and mindfulness approaches.
You're working long hours and still trying to maintain a sense of balance, or maybe getting pregnant is harder (and more isolating!) than you thought. Perhaps you're struggling as a new parent and finding yourself in frequent conflict with your partner. Or maybe you’re just feeling the weight of it all and not even sure who you are anymore. If this sounds like you, know that you’re not alone. Your needs are clear: you're ready to overcome obstacles, develop healthier coping skills, and build stronger, more meaningful relationships. Your goals to gain practical tools to navigate life's complexities are ambitious yet achievable.

With advanced-level training in perinatal mental health and faith-based social work, my holistic approach nurtures both the mind and the spirit.
Are you overwhelmed in your role as a parent, birth worker, pregnant person, or just as a member of society in general? Do you feel stressed trying to juggle your many responsibilities, caring for others and often leaving yourself last? Perhaps you are easily overstimulated, which feels like it's getting in the way of your relationships and work. You want to feel confident, but each day is a struggle, leading to shame and guilt. Perfectionism, worries, and sadness have taken over your life, making it hard to function without falling into "all or nothing" thinking.

I work well with adult children of alcoholics, transitions (relationship, career, lifestage), occupational issues, trauma, depression, anxiety, panic, fertility, postpartum, and family/relationship issues.
I offer practical, solution-focused goal-oriented psychotherapy aimed at timely symptom relief and problem resolution. My clients, being adults, determine their own therapy goals and agenda. My style is respectful, but interactive. I do not tell my clients what to do but I will always tell you honestly how I feel about the things that you present. I believe therapy should be time-limited and results-oriented, NOT a life-long continuous process. I believe that people can change, or else I would not be in this business. I delight in helping people master the tools which facilitate desired change.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.

Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?

In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
