With over 10 years of experience working with youth, adults and families as a Social Worker, I am able to recognize that you are the expert in your own journey. It can be hard to ask for help when you’re struggling and sometimes our thought patterns and emotions dictate our experiences and how we perceive the world around us. My role will be to hear you, create a safe space while helping you process challenging emotions and thoughts that can hinder your day-to-day progress. Awareness and reaching out is the first step and so you’re already on your way!

Do you feel anxious and alone these days? Does it feel like no one is listening to you? Perhaps you've always been a little nervous, but were able to cope without any trouble. Now things have changed it's not easy to do your job or live without wondering what others will think. You want to do more living and spend less time being in your own head, and you've discovered this isn't easy to talk about. You don't want to burden your friends, and would they understand anyway? Still, this is impacting your life, your health and your relationship. Right now you probably don't talk about this with anybody. I can help.

Have you been struggling with long standing depression? Do you feel like the depression comes in bouts? Have you been feeling anxious for as long as you can remember, especially when you were going through significant changes in your life or specifically when you are in social situations? I would love to work with you and be your support while you safely explore your thoughts, core beliefs, feelings and behaviours in a judgment-free, warm and confidential space. I will be genuinely curious when asking you questions that might help you discover your own patterns but also teach you how to respectfully challenge them.

As a first generation Canadian woman, member of the BIPOC community, oldest sibling, wife and mother, I have an appreciation for the complexities that contribute to our lived experiences. Managing our relationships, work, school, and life changes can feel overwhelming. You may be overthinking about friends, jobs and relationships, or having a difficult time developing and maintaining positive relationships with family, friends, or partners. While these challenges pile up, anxiety, anger, and sadness can start to cloud our thinking making it hard to tackle what we're experiencing on our own. Therapy can help us cope with what we're are going through, while also helping us learn more about ourselves along the way and regain control over parts of our life we felt we lost.

I help older adults and their essential caregivers manage the complexities of aging. My goal is to guide your journey towards more joy. Aging is not for the faint of heart. The aging body is not always cooperative. Post retirement can be a challenge as society defines us by what we do. Clients ask: Do I still matter? There can be multiple losses: family and friends, your driver's licence, functional losses, your sense of independence. Last but not least, ageing is a time for reflection: your legacy, meaning-making, regrets, letting-go, and finding a sense of inner peace.

Trauma lives in our bodies whether we recognize it or not. Although we might not know exactly what or how we are feeling, our bodies keep track. We’ve witnessed and experienced many things that have shaped us and how we perceive the world around us. As your therapist, I will hold a safe and confidential space for you to open up and unpack the trauma that is stored in your mind, body, and soul. As a first-generation Tamil Canadian, I recognize the impacts of intergenerational and racial trauma and how it affects the way we navigate different spaces and various relationships.

Folks who work with me have diverse needs including trauma, addiction, and attachment concerns. When working with trauma therapy can addresses multiple areas by supporting gradual changes that enhance coping, while processing how patterns and reactions can be changed. Sometimes change is not the goal and self-understanding is the focus. I understand the importance of seeking support when a person experiences trauma or burnout as a caregiver or in their professional life. Psychotherapy can support processing how a role can become integral to a person’s sense of self and yet, can also create immense challenges to a persons wellness.

Now accepting new clients! Hey there, I'm Rosa. I know that sometimes in life, we encounter challenges that test our resilience - whether it's grappling with anxiety or depression, mourning a loss, or facing relationship issues. If this has been your current experience, I want to first acknowledge your strength and bravery in recognizing the need for change. Second, I’d like you to know that support is available. Therapy is about more than talking. It's about understanding, evolving, and healing. In my work, I am committed to creating a space where you feel seen, heard, and valued.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.

Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
