I have been honored to be a licensed psychologist in private practice for over 30 years in Gwinnett County. My office is in Duluth, conveniently located near 85 and Pleasant Hill Rd. I see children ages 10 and up, adolescents, adults, couples and families. My approach is to help people who are experiencing depression, anxiety, stress, and/or relationship issues. Manna Treatment specializes in the treatment of eating disorders, trauma-based disorders, and general mental health. My goal as a primary therapist at Manna is to provide clients and their families a safe space to heal from their underlying hurts and pains and become leaders of their own journey again. Manna offers outpatient therapy, including individual and family, as well as partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient for eating disorders and intensive outpatient for trauma recovery. I also provide the option for clients to utilize faith-based principles in their work with me, if desired.

As a therapist, my main goal is to empower people to make positive changes and improve relationships. I also have a passion for helping families affected by addiction. In practice I use person centered therapy techniques as a basis for building the counseling relationship which will create a safe space for you to work on accomplishing goals. I cater therapy to individual client needs using evidence based approaches to therapy such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, as well as motivational interviewing, mindfulness based therapy, and solution focused therapies to help clients identify and overcome roadblocks to change.

As a clinician at Counsel Connections (formerly named Thriveworks Counseling), it is my goal to help clients find hope, healing and wholeness. I specialize in working with women who have trauma/abuse/PTSD histories. Anxiety and depression are major focuses of the work I do. Additionally, I specialize in the adoption field, serving birth mothers/families, adoptive families, and adoptees.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who works with individuals, families and teens (ages 13 and up), with a specialty in working with Couples. I have 15 years of experience in the counseling field. I use a growth-oriented approach in helping my clients create positive life changes. These changes will inevitably enhance and build on their existing strengths, insights, and skills while they cultivate new ones. I truly believe that most people instinctively know what is best for them and their situation. However, we sometimes do not follow our instincts for a variety of reasons including situational circumstances, unhealthy relationships, and low self-esteem.

Jonita is LGBTQIA+ affirming, utilizes emotional intelligence when working with clients and specializes in wholistic multidisciplinary approaches to achieve mental health and overall wellness. Jonita's favorite therapy modalities are experiential therapy, mindfulness based practices. She completed her undergraduate degree in Human Services from Saint Leo University and earned her Masters of Social Work with a focus on mental health and wellness from Clark Atlanta University. Jonita is also a human services board certified practioner, who wholeheartedly believes that mental health practice is what she is purposed and meant to do.

As we navigate our journey through life and life experiences there will be times when we are met with unforeseen circumstances that create periods of unhappiness, anxiety, and/or fear. These unforeseen circumstances can be due to trauma, life stressors, or natural life cycle transitions that render us “stuck” and unsure of where to turn or what to do.
