I believe that marriage is a good thing - a superb tonic for mental health! Getting or staying married reduces symptoms of depression far more than being single or divorced, according to a noted study. We take a brief therapy approach, because no one wants to spend years, or even months in therapy - nor need they. We focus on solutions not problems, on the present not the past.
My techniques include anger management, conflict resolution, relationship communication training, assertiveness training. I also help clients manage: attention deficit; a strong-willed child; depression; anxiety; panic attacks; grief; stress and intimacy issues. In practice for over 20 years, we have helped hundreds of individuals, couples and families.

Learning the skills to regulate emotions related to anxiety, anger and depression. Specifically: 1. Mindful Living: Involves learning to live more fully in the present rather than dwelling in the past or worrying about the future. 2. Distress Tolerance: Involves tolerating and accepting crisis situations and then finding ways to be as effective as possible. 3. Emotional Regulation: Involves managing intense emotion that can interfere with functioning effectively in life. 4. Interpersonal Effectiveness: Involves improving communication, assertiveness, and problem solving. DBT is collaborative. Patients are asked to be actively involved in the treatment by giving their input, doing homework, practicing skills.
