I don't have an ideal client. I want to met people where they are at. If you've never had therapy before, it’s important to be aware we don’t start talking about the hard stuff. It can take 2-3 sessions for someone to feel comfortable enough to tell another person what they are struggling with. Therapists cannot read minds, but have studied human patterns of thoughts, feelings & actions. No one can truly know the exact consequences a person has experienced in their life. Regardless of the reason why someone is seeking therapy, there is no judgment, no criticism…just acceptance. People can heal & grow in this type of environment.
I've been a licensed MFT since 2004, & it is my second career. My first career started as a RN in 1980. I’ve worked in many settings, including ICU, ED, Outpatient Clinic, BHU, & Home Health. Being an RN has allowed me to witness the highs & lows of the human experience. Since As an RN & MFT, I can help clients understand their mental & physical challenges.
My focus is to listen, educate & reflect back. I concentrate on what a person is thinking & feeling, since I primarily preform CBT. I utilize other concepts from a variety of theories that can be applied practically. I’ve counseled many who have undergone past or recent trauma. grief/loss, & communication issues.
