As of September 2024, I am accepting new in-person clients at my downtown Oakland office and new teletherapy clients as well. I love working with those new to therapy, but also find great satisfaction working with clients who have done conventional talk therapy for years without big gains, often having covered the same ground over and over with no clear benefit. Beyond anxiety and depression, the most common issues clients see me for are anxiety, depression, substance use, and PTSD, but I also treat ADHD and OCD. I use a lot of EMDR, but also other modalities, to help clients shift feelings, self-beliefs, and attitudes.
I try to get away from intellectualized, talk-processing therapy, which I think is too common. My approach tends to be holistic/somatic and purposefully avoids repetitious attempts to get clients to simply think their way out of problems. I focus on helping clients change how they feel, not just how they think.
I believe that therapy should be both finite and ambitious. I do not want clients running in circles for years, I want big wins (they are what makes this work so worthwhile) and warm goodbyes. I can't promise you either, but will do my best to help you get both. And if we decide we're not a good fit, I'll work to help you find a better next step.
