All of us carry the past with us all the time. We may have learned to push it away, stuff it down, or whatever stops the pain. We all make mistakes, hurt others, have regrets, humiliations, and shame. None of those feel good so we push them away, but not without a cost. Unfortunately, it tends to prevent the full development of self-knowledge, self-esteem, and the ability to self-reflect. These are the things that help us grow and develop as adults, to be who we want to be. Imagine looking into a mirror, right in your eyes, and saying, "I love you, just the way you are." I love teaching clients about their Autonomic Nervous System, their biology , and how it affects their lives. That is where trauma lives, so this knowledge is power, and facilitates healing. My clients learn to move between states, and how to build resilience. Trauma disturbs development of self, so we work on self-awareness and self-reflection as well.
I strive to create a safe, comfortable, nonjudgmental environment where clients can feel free to explore issues of importance, collaborate on goals, and discover the answers that exist inside themselves. I believe we all have the potential for wholeness, we just need to peel back all of the unworkable layers to build regulation and resilience.
