About
An ideal client would be one, I think, that has arrived at a place that tells them they very much need to change or understand something in their lives, and are ready to begin work on that. I believe that everyone struggles with the actual making of those changes even when acknowledged. The willingness to seek out help represents the courage necessary to move toward those goals of understanding and change.
I pursued training in Psychoanalysis after finishing my masters degree because I felt that after experiencing a variety of therapies/therapists in personal therapy, psychoanalysis offered the kindest, most broad based and permanent method of change and understanding. I like working with complex human issues that require the sensitivity and patience psychoanalytic/psychodynamic approach provides.
I spent 15 years working in a substance abuse treatment program, which taught me that beyond the initial struggle to get/stay substance free, individuals most often have underlying psychological issues, i.e. depression, anxiety, PTSD, grief and loss issues seem to be the most common, not unlike the general population.
