I am a licensed psychologist as well as a licensed marriage and family therapist with over thirty years of experience in treating children, teens and adults. I use a practical approach in helping people and also realize that the relationship that we create is the foundation for change. I enjoy the model of the scientist/ practitioner and I incorporate my review of the research coupled with "what works." Additionally, I find a sense of humor often is helpful in tackling life's issues.

You may be SAD and ANXIOUS. Maybe you are feeling stuck, lost, on edge, and irritable. Perhaps you are at constant WAR with yourself, wondering when you will ever get a break. Maybe you struggle with low self-esteem, internalized toxic shame, people pleasing, and difficulties being vulnerable. Maybe you struggle in relationships and find it difficult to find joy and inner peace. You don’t understand why you keep attracting relationships, friendships or job dynamics that do not serve you. Do you struggle with setting healthy boundaries? Do you have a difficult time in your family dynamic?

I am a licensed MFT working with individual adult clients seeking positive change in their lives. I was training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and I believe when we change, life changes. Positive shifts such as increased self-agency and improved relationships with others and with oneself start happening for clients on the internal and external levels of their lives. Internally means clients start feeling more relief, and more satisfaction and external positive shifts mean they “get” more of what they want from work, relationships, or other areas of their lives they care about.

As a Jungian analyst, I have a special tool I will share with you to work through life’s glitches, helping you to hone your communication skills and deepen self-understanding while nurturing trust and respect for yourself and others. We can work with your dreams to help improve self-awareness. We look at dreams as though they are a gift sent to us to access our own depth, our psyche. Together, we will explore and appreciate this gift carefully and sense its flavor and try to decipher and enjoy it. If you don't remember your dreams we can also use Jungian Sandplay Therapy. This powerful method, does not need any preparation.

Working to understand ourselves and our relationships in new and deeper ways is a courageous act. I believe that not only do we all have the capacity for growth and well-being, but we also deserve to attain understanding, wholeness, and fulfillment. Perhaps it's a question of identity and purpose, or it may involve thoughts and behaviors that are preventing you from feeling like yourself, or maybe you haven't yet identified what feels "off." Together, we can work to uncover and analyze patterns, thoughts, and experiences to help re-awaken joy, peace, and connection.

I work with couples, families, and individuals to help them reduce conflict and increase satisfaction in their relationships and day to day lives. The goal of our work would be to alleviate emotional distress, control anxiety, and feel more in control of one's choices and reactions. In addition to attachment, we would explore values and ideals to create a strength-based concept of oneself. Significant life changes, good or bad, can also add to interpersonal and intrapersonal conflicts and create anxiety. Therapy can help.

Do you struggle with chronic anxiety, never feeling “good enough,” and overwhelm as a highly sensitive person (HSP) that affects your relationships and career? Do you feel burnt out, exhausted, and frustrated by the pressure to do the most and meet everyone else’s needs, with little time to attune to your own? Feeling lost and pulled in so many different directions is a daily experience so many of us wrestle with; persistent self-doubt makes it hard to attune to your inner voice, trust your gut, and move through the world with clarity. You’re left wondering what it would feel like to experience self-trust, confidence and stability.

As a psychologist, it is my belief that the therapy hour, the therapy relationship, is expressly unique. One that is devoted exclusively to you - where memories of the past stream into thoughts of the future and all is said in a protected, confidential space. Whether you are dealing with relationship or trauma issues, or seeking treatment for symptoms of depression, anxiety or substance use, the process of therapy can serve to clarify underlying feelings, reveal patterns - make the unconscious conscious. In doing so, therapy can enhance a person's sense of empowerment, enrich relationship experiences, illuminate the Self.

Before therapy, my life was ruled by anxiety, a harsh inner critic, and chronic low-level depression. Maybe you relate? Fear and doubt can grow so strong that our worlds become ever-smaller, robbing us of faith in our ability to overcome the obstacles standing in the way of the life we want. Summoning the courage to see a therapist can be a priceless gift we give ourselves. In therapy, we gain tools to self-soothe and insight into the root of the harmful messages we tell ourselves. We are reacquainted with our strengths, learn to accept the discomfort inherent in growth, and can get back into the driver's seat of our lives.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Los Angeles?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
