Good therapy should result in real life changes, not just increased self-awareness in the therapy office. People are seeking understanding, and guidance. My best work comes when there is mutual respect and an openness to learning. Everyone feels better when they find out they are not 'crazy' and there is an explanation for what they are feeling and thinking. I tend to be active in my work, because people come because they want feedback, not silence. My style is eclectic, meaning I will use many techniques to reach the goal, and the challenge will extend past my office door.
My speciality is working with trauma and narcissist abuse. Toxic love relationships undermine self-esteem and erode one's sense of self. Although awareness of this has grown, there is still alot of work and education to be done. No one deserves to be abused or belittled in a relationship. And it takes support to walk away.
'My Favorite Murder' is my favorite podcast because it normalizes life struggles and emphasizes the idea that we aren't to blame for our misfortune and missteps. Life is not supposed to be a pursuit to excellence, it is full of ups and downs. Let's embrace our flawed selves and continue to grow and hopefully thrive.
