Thank you for stopping by. I like to make people feel safe, heard, validated, and better. My goal is to help you reach the goal you want to achieve. You might be needing alternative thoughts to have less anxiety at work or quick tools for emotional regulation at home with your children, but I would like to take time and explore your past so that you can understand why your mind and body are reacting the way they are now. Self-awareness and mindfulness can be a powerful catalysis for your growth.

You may be considering therapy because you are feeling unbalanced, untethered & unanchored due to all that you're carrying. Maybe you are finding your breaths to be more shallow lately. Perhaps your brain feels foggy & bogged down. You may be angry, enraged & worn down by oppressive, unjust, racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, xenophobic, classist & ableist systems. All of this may be taking a toll on how you are able to show up as your true, authentic self. You may be a parent who is feeling overwhelmed by all the demands placed upon you, & you may be feeling like no matter what you do it is never enough.

We can never be fully prepared for how life changes once we have children. Learning how to be a parent without losing other important relationships and parts of ourselves can be even more challenging if we’re dealing with a traumatic birth, unexpected medical diagnoses, or an increase in anxiety, overwhelm, or anger. I am a therapist who listens closely and with curiosity, who will support you in processing loss and rebuilding your sense of self and your relationships. I have also co-led the group for Child-Parent Relationship Training (CPRT) Group in both English and Mandarin.
I am a mental counselor licensed in two states: TX and WA. I believe everyone has their own defined resiliency. Being resilient does not mean that people don’t experience stress, emotional upheaval, and suffering. My approach to counseling is focused on understanding a person holistically. I place a heavy emphasis on establishing a safe and collaborative relationship with all my clients; I provide each client with a safe, non-judgmental environment to express their issues and concerns. I hope to help people find their strengths and support them in their unique needs.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
