I work with children and teens and their families. I address issues including problematical attachment with parents and/or caregivers, negative self-image, trauma, depression, anxiety, anger, oppositionality, poor communication and social skills, acting out behaviors, sibling problems, and difficulties in school. As a therapist, I establish a safe "container" in which to work with children and parents together in order to strengthen a child's positive sense of self, reinforce the family system and bonds of attachment, and promote behavioral and emotional regulation. I work with teachers and school administrators to help children learn and thrive in school

Accepting new clients! My clients oftentimes say they struggle with symptoms such as recurring negative patterns in their life, anxiety, depression, anger, overwhelm, relationship issues, problematic family dynamics, trouble getting new habits to stick, compulsively using external things to feel better (i.e. work, people, alcohol), pain, headaches, and more. Through a mix of talk therapy and body centered approaches, we will explore your symptoms with curiosity, build on your strengths and current coping skills, and move toward more adaptive strategies, as well as processing old stored stuff that might be getting in your way today.

I connect deeply and empathically with my clients, and challenge them towards greater self-awareness that leads to happiness and peace of mind internally and within relationships. Individuals and couples inevitably reach periods of frustration and conflict that signal the need for change. Whether these problems are grounded in past loss or current misfortune, outside intervention can offer immediate relief. I specialize in treating mood disorders, couples in gridlock, and adult children with a legacy of trauma, neglect or codependency. Working with adults and couples, I approach difficulties compassionately and non-pathologically. Psychotherapy helps restore emotional balance and well-being.

Hi, I'm a clinical social worker licensed in Maryland. For over 20 years, I’ve worked with individuals of various ages, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds, who have suffered from mild to severe mental health disorders. I have an eclectic and conversational treatment style. I believe treatment relies on strong therapeutic relationships. The aspect of my treatment that I believe consistently helps my clients to achieve their goals, is my ability to use humor, strength, transparency, and kindness to make it safe for them to be honest and kind with themselves about problematic patterns of behavior and thought.

I think it's very important to find a therapist who is a GOOD FIT for you with your unique needs. While I think psychodynamically, which means that I focus on helping my clients develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationships, I tend to be pragmatic and problem solving. My style is professional, yet relaxed and I'm appreciated for being both compassionate and having a sense of humor in my work. I see my patients in individual psychotherapy and very frequently in group therapy as well. Please note that I am only accepting new patients for group therapy.

I approach most counseling issues from a perspective that most people are doing the best they can with what they believe and perceive. Hence, the context for most of our pain as human beings and our well being is found within the meanings we code our experiences with and the relationship spheres we foster. Therefore, above all the various strategies I may find the need to employ on behalf of my client, the most impactful of all of these is that of using the compassionate connection we build with each other as being a powerful catalyst to generate the flow of new possibility.

Are there aspects of your life that you are unhappy with? Are you feeling anxious, struggling to follow your dreams or having difficulties in your relationships with others? Are you struggling with the impact of past traumatic experiences? Are you dealing with chronic pain? If so, therapy can be helpful to you! My approach centers on fostering connection and healing. I prioritize a trauma-informed perspective, shifting the question from 'what's wrong with you?' to 'what happened to you?'. This approach is particularly empowering for trauma survivors, who may have received multiple diagnoses in the past.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
