Are you weighed down by "doing it all” and always left feeling like it’s not quite enough? Do you often feel overwhelmed and exhausted? Whether it’s parenting struggles, food and body concerns, relationship difficulties, past wounds, or all of the above, the demands of our lives can leave us frazzled and empty. Without focusing on our needs and caring for ourselves, we can become burned out, anxious, and lost. We repeat patterns of behavior in our relationships that don’t serve us anymore and keep us stuck.

The story of our lives often shape our day to day experiences. As we open up to our story and how we ended up at a certain space in our lives, we begin to see patterns. We begin to see unhealthy ways we have responded to people, relationships that have been less than productive, or events that unfolded different than we had hoped. In order to grow and set a new course, we need to identify the patterns that have lead us here. Therapy is about doing just that - uncovering underlying, most the time subconscious, ways of thinking, so that we can become the people that we want to be.

Hi, I'm Michele. I'm glad you're here. I know how a situation, involving yourself or a loved one, can consume your life. I became a therapist because I've experienced similar circumstances. Those moments have led me to be an empathetic and effective counselor. We will take things at your pace. This is your time, and we will work together to find healing and growth.

My clients are aware that something in their current lives is no longer serving them, want to understand how that came to be, and align themselves with the vision they have for their future. This often starts by noticing repeating patterns of behavior in themselves, or those they attract, and becoming curious about the reason why. They may also find that they experience certain physical and emotional responses (anger, anxiety, people pleasing etc.) and know that their body is trying to tell them something needs to shift.

Welcome. If you're here right now, you're probably longing for more peace and joy, but the worry and sadness keep eclipsing your ability to feel good. Perhaps you're successful in many areas of your life but continue to have a nagging feeling that you aren’t enough. Maybe you are feeling overwhelmed by distressing emotion and painful memories. Or you and your partner are stuck in the same argument loop and are wondering how to feel passion and ease in your relationship again. Maybe you are a therapist who wants to work through some personal issues or needs guidance to prevent or heal from compassion fatigue.

There's a beautiful passage by Jacquelyn Small that sums up the way I view and practice therapy: "When therapeutic relating occurs, both parties have dissolved the boundary between the one needing help and the other offering it; they are simply two beings bouncing off each other in truth; We all just need clear people to bounce off of so we can see our own light." I strongly believe that we're the experts of our own lives and sometimes we just need a safe, non-judgmental person to see us, believe our experiences and remind us that we're deserving and healing is possible.

I treasure a core belief that human beings are inherently compassionate, wise, and whole. Then life happens and we begin to lose access to our inner resourcefulness. My work is rooted in connection, authenticity, and empathy. I feel that change and healing occur both experientially and relationally. By utilizing compassion, honesty, and humor, I connect and collaborate with clients to create a supportive and non-judgmental container for self-exploration and growth.

“Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone.” Fred Rogers sums up very well the first steps of healing - to begin to share what is happening in a compassionate space. I am passionate about supporting people in facing the difficulties and complexities of life with courage.

I specialize in anxiety, ADHD, OCD, high achievers, burnout, perfectionism, grief, parenting, and coping with chronic illnesses.
Feeling stuck and having trouble engaging with what really matters to you? Your brain has done an excellent job keeping you safe, but some strategies developed as a reaction to stressors may no longer meet your needs. Issues like family of origin discord, medical illnesses, neurodiversity, and stressful work environments can all add up to impact our relationship with ourselves and others. I especially love working with high achievers who have issues with perfectionism, burnout, dissociation, attachment, and procrastination.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
