I especially enjoy working with parents struggling to interrupt the intergenerational transmission of trauma, whether they are in the pre-parenting, postpartum, early childhood, adolescent, or adult child stage.
Many present-day struggles have their origin in responses to traumatic experiences in the past. While these responses deserve great respect for having kept us alive (physically and/or emotionally), moving from surviving to thriving asks us to recognize that the past is not present. Working together, we can strengthen your ability to stay and feel with what is, rather than continue to respond to the trauma that was. We can gently lay those old trauma responses to rest and find new, healing ways of responding to the here and now.

My training includes EMDR, hypnosis, traumatic incident reduction, adoption competency, child-parent psychotherapy, and I am a level 2 certified clinical trauma specialist.
Traumatic experiences can impact every aspect of your life and leave you feeling angry, confused, and lonely. If you feel discouraged, misunderstood, and just exhausted by how much energy it takes to cope on a daily basis, we should talk. I understand that trauma symptoms are disempowering and want you to know that you don’t have to handle this on your own.

Therapy can be a powerful catalyst for change and the key to bringing your life back into balance. Whether you experience anxiety, depression, or just want support in seeking a new direction, there's no need to struggle alone. Together, we'll identify the cycle of behaviors preventing you from reaching your goals, devise strategies to cope more effectively and create a plan for positive change. I often work with those adjusting to life transitions that include parenting, divorce and infidelity, career and relationship conflicts, as well as those hoping to create a closer connection to their partner.

The dragonfly, in almost every part of the world, symbolizes the change in the perspective of self-realization. The kind of change that has its source in mental and emotional maturity and the understanding of the deeper meaning of life. We weave this meaning into the fabric of our mission and in the work we provide to every client enrolled at SHARE. Are you stuck or lost? Are you struggling with anxiety and fear? Are those intrusive thoughts derailing your days? Feeling disconnected from yourself or your partner(s) can leave you feeling unloved, undesirable, and alone. Whatever your struggle, I am here for you.

I really enjoy working through a variety of issues, and have a unique and comforting approach to guiding clients out of whatever they are currently sitting with. I believe the client is the expert in their own lives and they are capable of change, but sometimes need some help to figure out their path and find solutions. I don’t believe there is a one-size-fits-all approach to any issue, and use various methods such as EMDR, DBT, ACT, and solution focused, depending on your needs. I use Gottman Method Couples Therapy in my work with couples.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
