When you’re neck-deep in the struggle of parenting a child with special needs, taking the step to start your own therapy probably feels impossible. It might feel like just one more thing demanding your attention, one more appointment to keep straight, one more person telling you everything you’re doing wrong. My goal is to help you to feel more grounded and regulated so that all of the other things demanding your attention feel more manageable. I hope to support your parenting journey with a unique skillset that can address both your mental health needs, and bolster your skills around behavior management.

Perhaps you and your partner have different parenting styles, are confused and exhausted by your child's behaviors, don't want to repeat family patterns, or want to insulate children from divorce/separation.
I'm a Marriage and Family Therapist focused on Infant & Toddler Mental Health, whether the child is of average development or special needs, in single or multiple households. My mission is to guide parents of children ages 0-5 in uncovering their innate parenting powers to lead healthy, resilient, secure families with both confidence & serenity. Whereby, all parents create clarity and conscious choice in developing a family culture to raise children to their fullest potential in resilient families. Early relationships and parenting quality matter. Your baby's physical, social, emotional, behavioral, and brain development depend on it.

My goal is to provide clients caring, concrete, and practical answers using proven-effective treatment options. I feel strongly that clients should be a collaborator in their treatment and see improvements quickly. Parents with children who have behavioral problems are often exhausted and at the end of their rope. Parent-Child Interaction Therapy provides quick solutions and reduces parental stress. Couples often seek therapy when communication is breaking down. Both PCIT and Gottman Method Therapy inform my work with couples and families.

Living in a neurotypical world with a neurodivergent brain is hard. It feels like pushing a boulder up a hill - only it doesn't matter how far up the hill you get, you always end up back at the bottom, watching other people push their boulders up, seemingly with ease. Parenting while neurodivergent or parenting a neurodivergent child can feel the same way. It's important to know that you aren't alone and there isn't something wrong with you.

24 Years in public education have given me extensive knowledge in ADHD, ASD, addictions, parenting/relationship issues, and brain injury.
If you are struggling (relationally, socially, emotionally, or vocationally) and need to know that you are OK, you are not alone. You may be dealing with anxiety, depression, codependency, ADHD, or relationship issues that keep you from the life you want to live. You may be seeking understanding, validation, and permission to care for yourself. Thinking traps like "I shouldn't feel this way" are common and treatable. Sometimes it takes an outsider to help us recognize thinking patterns that block freedom. My goal is to empower people to make changes needed for a balanced, healthy life.

I find oftentimes that the focus of therapy can shift from the child to a parent or to both parents.
As a play therapist and family therapist, I believe that healing is a family affair, and, I include parents as an integral part of their child's therapy. I specialize in trauma, attachment, adoption, blended families, difficult and severe behaviors, as well as parenting, and issues stemming from any and all of the above. I love working with children and their parents and families. Children seem to have an innate sense of what is going on and what needs to happen in order for healing to occur, and, when they are able to express that and be heard, the whole family can shift and change.

Life can be hard. Don't struggle alone - I'm here to help! I’ve spent 15 years as a therapist working with young children, parents, families, and those unsure of their parenting future. My specialty is supporting parents (or potential future parents) to process their own childhood and family dynamics, to help them make the best decisions they can for their families. I love working with parents before, during, and after pregnancy, as well as using dyadic therapy for parent/child to process trauma together. Regardless of your parenting status, I can support you individually, or with your child.

Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
