I came to Humboldt County in 2001, after completing my psychology degree in Europe and my master's degree in psychotherapy in Syracuse, New York. I have practiced psychotherapy for the last 30 years, and I am familiar with a wide range of issues, situations and diagnosis. Although, I enjoy specific theoretical and practical approaches and models of therapy like CBT, SFBT for treating anxiety, trauma impact and depression symptoms, I clinically focus on what I believe suits best the individual and the situation. I view life as a journey towards betterment of the person and reach for happiness.

I have been working with people for 30 years and look forward to helping clients create healthy relationships with me, themselves and with those in their lives. I enjoy working with individuals from all racial and cultural backgrounds who are motivated to make changes in their lives; to reduce painful reactions; and increase their understanding of what makes them feel happy, strong and self assured. I encourage clients to do homework assignments in between therapy sessions, in an effort to help clients take ownership of their process, and learn coping skills that will last beyond treatment.

I strongly believe that each person has the capacity to heal, grow, and thrive in all aspects of their life. Sometimes the stresses and difficulties of life can become too challenging to face on our own, and we need additional therapeutic input to navigate these obstacles and build resiliency. Hello! As a licensed counselor and community advocate, I provide individual therapy for people who are interested in discovering and developing skills and methods to increase emotional well-being. I have experience working with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, grief and loss, sleep issues, workplace stress, caregiver burnout and co-occurring substance use and mental health issues. I also have experience working with individuals and families struggling with trauma.

I believe the development of a secure and collaborative relationship is the most important aspect of the work I do with clients. Working from a strengths-based and relational perspective in a trauma informed manner, I have experience working with at-risk youth, families, and adults using a multi-theoretical approach including attachment theory, cognitive-behavioral, family systems, narrative therapy, neuroscience research, and alternative therapies such as art and nature therapy. I love helping youth and adults through change and deep transformation so that they can actualize their goals in life.

We all need help occasionally. Learning how to approach and overcome these challenges shape us and allow us to experience life to the fullest. Therapy allows us to look at where we may be blocked and helps us find our own answers to living an authentic life. I discovered that building a supportive relationship through therapy creates a safe place to explore life issues, understand difficult situations, learn new skills, enrich relationships, and work through situations that lead to a more authentic life.

In my practice, I work with all age groups but specialize in working with at-risk youth and their families. I have worked extensively with children and adolescents in both school and community-based settings as well as providing therapy within the home. This allows me to provide in-the-moment parent coaching and support and formulate both therapeutic and behavioral plans for my clients and their families. I have also worked closely with children and teens who have an autism diagnosis, providing them and their families with support tools to help regulate behavior and reach their individual potential.

I believe work can be an outlet for our unique personalities and our creative expression, and a key element in finding meaning. Some career changes are simply taking the next step: improving your resume or interview skills. Other transitions require seismic, re-alignment to overcome multiple factors: family expectations; low self-esteem or beliefs/habits that create work unhappiness or stress.
