Being human most of us have experienced trauma of various degrees throughout our lives. It may create distress in our personal and our professional lives causing loss, anxiety, depression and many other forms of physical and emotional pain. We want relief from these issues so we can gain fulfillment in our relationships, a purpose to live, and a sense of peace and well-being. If we can only become aware of what makes us think, feel and react the way we do, maybe we can figure out what we can control and deal with what we can't.
My work as a crisis counselor for American Airlines after 9/11, for FEMA during the flood of 2006, and working with teens -at-risk were invaluable experiences. This work stretched my empathy, my relational skills, and my undying belief in resilience and hope. I am a good-listener with a good memory, nonjudgmental and a good sense of humor.
Change is not an easy journey. It's a spiral that travels up and down. I have been on it and know it well. One may go down but never to the bottom.
