Aside from treating common anxiety and depression symptoms, I have over a decade of experience working with eating disorders and trauma. I also have more recent experience working with ADHD symptoms. I am an LGBTQ accomplice and have experience supporting clients in various stages of their queer journey.

You are not alone. No one goes through life without facing challenges or without suffering. Everyday life often spurs mental health challenges which can weigh us down and make us feel stuck. Chronic anxiety, depression, problematic reactions to trauma, issues in relationships, self-criticism, issues with substances/food, and a host of other common mental health related challenges indicate a need for help. Life transitions and experiences of loss/grief are also times when help is often needed. While no one can escape challenges or suffering, wounds can be healed, and a life centered in solid mental health is possible for everyone.

At Applegate Counseling, we strive to help individuals, families, and couples address challenges and work towards their goals in a safe environment. While we draw on cognitive behavioral techniques, we work alongside you to determine and apply the most appropriate strategies for your situation.

I seek long-term relationships with clients. The foundation of a client / therapist relationship, and all relationships, is trust. We take time to build rapport and establish sincere trust on the way toward forming a therapeutic alliance. It's often the case clients underlying issue is lack of trust in themselves and/or in their relationships, regardless of the "disorder", or lack there of. Whether living with a severe & persistent mental illness, or adjusting to a current challenge in life, my goal as a counselor is to provide a comfortable, reliable long-term therapeutic relationship that provides guidance, growth & healing.

My goal in therapy is to help you achieve a deeper understanding of why you may struggle to cope with stress and anxiety or make the desired behavioral changes you identify as needed in your life. I will work with you to explore your goals and motives, while learning about the neurobiological underpinnings of what we understand as our human "fight, flight of freeze" responses, which can often sabotage our ability to respond in ways that avoid exacerbating our situation and/or damaging our relationships with others. Together we will explore how you can learn to identify and short-circuit your emotional triggers.

Whether you struggle with grief, depression, anxiety, trauma or a difficult relationship or situation, I am ready to help you find your path forward. I have some specialized skills and knowledge working with elders and their family members around issues that arise in the golden years from a decade spent working on a geriatric hospital unit. I also have years of experience working with dually diagnosed clients. One is never too old or too sick to aspire.

I am so excited to offer both counseling and clinical supervision services within my practice. I have over 20 years of experience as a therapist. I have worked extensively in community behavioral health settings and have a wealth of experience to share with licensee's. I believe that people are resilient and that being alongside a person through their own individual journey is a sacred honor. I work with clients to strengthen and foster healing, growth, health and wellness. My theoretical framework is person centered and I tailor my interventions to the individual client.

Sometimes we can be dealt a lot of blows or disappointments in life and it's tough slogging though it alone. I welcome working with those who are facing transitions or relationship difficulties, have depression and/or anxiety, among other life issues. Sometimes family issues and past wounds can become a focus of treatment. Receiving therapeutic support during these critical moments can make a positive and lasting difference.

My therapy practice integrates strength based disciplines including Emotionally Focused Therapy, mindfulness based techniques, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

My intention as a therapist is to help you feel empowered in your process of self-discovery. I believe everyone can heal and grow to be their best selves with the proper support, tools, and guidance. Change is hard, even when it is positive, I will be by your side, helping you navigate the emotions, thoughts, and beliefs that surface as you attempt to break old habits and patterns and begin living an authentic life.
