Having a child or adolescent who is struggling can be overwhelming not just for the child, but also for the entire
family
.

family
dynamics. As a licensed professional counselor and licensed behavioral specialist, I am highly trained to address these, and similar issues.

"Each of us is born with the potential to be the best version of ourselves. For most of us, along the way, life can get in the way. Whether it's substances, relationships, anxiety or negative thoughts; we lose our way. We find ourselves muddling through what is meant to be a satisfying and uplifting journey. If you want to discover how to get back to that inborn potential; therapy may be the answer. I won't have all the answers, no one knows you better than you! I will help you uncover the answers that are true for you."

In any psychotherapy the relationship between the client and their therapist is of paramount importance. With that in mind, I prioritize getting to know each person that I work with in a meaningful way as we engage in the process of symptom reduction. I pride myself on being able to build comfortable discussion with adults, adolescents, and children and tailor communication to best fit each developmental stage. When working with families I ensure that each
family
members' concern is heard and work to join with each member while remaining focused on addressing the issue which brought them to treatment.

I work with couples and families using
Family
Systems Therapy and
Family
/Marital Therapy.
Are you feeling overwhelmed, stressed, and overly emotional? Trying to "fix" things on your own without success? Untreated, these feelings often lead to anxiety, depression,
family
conflict and increase stress; this prevents you from living your life to the fullest. Coping during stressful times requires talking to a compassionate professional who will treat you with dignity and respect. The goal of therapy is for each person to reach their highest potential in all areas of their lives. I treat children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families experiencing various emotional and psychological symptoms.

I wanted to get into the mental health field from a young age, as I was always surrounded by friends and
family
who struggled with mental health.
I am a Licensed Social Worker with a passion for decreasing the stigma surrounding mental health and promoting the health and well being of my clients. For my undergraduate degree, I moved from Central Jersey (Yes! It exists!) to South Jersey to attend Stockton University. I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work with a Minor in Behavioral Neuroscience from Stockton, and then moved on to attend graduate school in Philadelphia. I received my Master of Social Work Degree with a clinical concentration from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Social Policy and Practice in May of 2020.

Life is filled with times of transition and times of change. This couldn't be more true than for the life of a child or an adolescent. School stressors, personal identity,
family
separations, forming healthy friendships, and an overwhelming desire for acceptance are all things that a child or adolescent may deal with regularly. In these moments it is crucial for a young person to feel understood and listened to in order to be helped. Coming alongside a young person in whatever place they may be residing in is where my heart resides. Many times this age group can be overlooked or misunderstood, but their needs still remain.

I can help you age in peace! Having reached senior age myself it is time for me to concentrate on the issues that meet us as seniors. We all experience grief and health issues that are both emotionally and practically hard to handle without support. Conflict between generations are common. Some are emotional issues. Some can be triggered wills, health directives, powers of attorney, naming of estate executors. With my background in both
family therapy
and
family
law I am uniquely qualified to resolve and prevent these kinds of
family
conflicts. I don’t give legal advise, but I can point out things you should discuss with a lawyer.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
