I particularly enjoy working with women aged 20-40 who are working to overcome anxiety and depression or are coping with relationship dynamics. I believe most clients have a trauma history that shapes their mental health concerns, and helping them to process and heal from this history is vital to the client achieving a better quality of life. My ideal client will be seeking to learn new coping skills, communication strategies, or relationship skills.

My ideal client is someone open to the process of therapy. Someone who is willing to show up for themselves, and “put in the work”. My client may be someone dealing with anxiety , depression, or challenges of ADHD, such as Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria. My client may be feeling in a rut or “stuck” in personal aspects of their life. My client may be challenged by different phases and stages of life, by not feeling capable or feeling easily overwhelmed. They want to engage in therapy and work on achieving their personal goals in a space where they are seen, heard, validated and encouraged.

When struggles and unexpected challenges arise, it can lead to symptoms of anxiety , depression, suicidal thoughts, OCD, and many other psychological and emotional symptoms. Every individual is different, It is not easy to function with debilitating depression, anxiety or any behavioral health diagnosis. Just as one needs help and support with a medical diagnosis, we all need support with behavioral health diagnoses. I am here to offer support in a therapeutic, positive and holistic environment. To meet you where you are. To provide a judgement free zone. I use CBT techniques along with other interventions and tools that I have mastered over the years to meet the person where they are. Often taking the first step is the hardest part, but know that you are stronger just by being here and seeking help.

My imagined ideal client may report challenges and self-esteem challenges, manifesting as low mood, unhealthy boundaries, people-pleasing behaviors, social anxiety , self-validation, or acceptance struggles. The identified needs include relational improvement, self-confidence, and insight. I highlight the process as aiding the client in identifying triggers and sources of depleted esteem, exploring thoughts and feelings regarding self, others, and the world, and processing maladaptive behaviors. I would journey with the client in unveiling core beliefs that impact esteem and work to recognize strengths and positive qualities.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
