I am a clinical social worker and family therapist and love my work. When one member in a family struggles it has deep impact on everyone else. Challenging families to change patterns helps family members choose healthier lifestyles, making for more satisfying relationships. My approach is pro-active, nonjudgmental and straightforward. I collaborate with individuals and families to attain goals they have set for themselves. It is my belief that tapping into the client's or family's wisdom is always the best strategy.

Feel Better. Whether for depression, anxiety or relationship issues, the majority of clients come to therapy with the goal of feeling better; happier, more connected to others, and free from the paralysis of emotional pain or trauma. We look at how an issue experienced in the now came to be there, from early childhood experience to prior adult experiences, and how these all culminated in the present problem(s). We also utilize techniques to individually tailor treatment to the patient's needs, including cognitive/behavioral, problem-solving, and insight-oriented therapies, and often ..humor(!)

It is my firm belief that all of my clients are striving for health despite having some self-defeating behaviors. My approach focuses on helping clients apply their strengths in order to achieve peak living. Peak living is a state of total engagement that allows for maximum enjoyment of day-to-day life. Everyone experiences ups and downs, but those who achieve peak living enjoy longer and higher peaks with shorter and shallower valleys.

Looking inward isn’t easy. It takes hard work to look at the stuff that keeps getting in the way of having the life you want. Often times it’s fear, other times it’s something more concrete. No matter what barriers you’re facing, together we can work through the fears and accomplish your goals. When we’re suffering from a loss, fighting a personal battle, processing a difficult childhood, facing a scary diagnosis, or other major life transition we all need support to have someone to walk along side us, see the light when we cannot, and hold us until we’re on the other side.

I mainly work within a psychodynamic psychotherapy framework; however, I may include techniques that draw from behavioral, cognitive, or mindfulness schools so the client is treated in a manner that is best suited for them.
I have focused on developing an expertise in technology addiction; including the internet, cell phones, and video games. I work with clients of all genders from early adolescence through adulthood. Additional presenting issues that I often treat include depression, loss, trauma, and anxiety. These may be episodic manifestations of the symptom, or part of a larger personality, autistic, or adjustment disorder. These clients typically are looking for support and the chance to explore their feelings and experiences in a way that enhances their self-understanding and self-efficacy.

My approach integrates relational therapy, attachment-focused work, trauma-informed care, and mind–body–spirit awareness. I help clients explore the emotional, relational, and existential lay

I believe that therapy can result in meaningful and long lasting changes, as long as an individual is provided with a trusting, supportive, and non-judgmental environment that will allow one to identify, discuss, and resolve one's current difficulties or problems. My clients tell me that they find it very easy to talk to me about difficult and sensitive matters, and that they feel calm and comfortable in my presence. We will work together to identify stressors and/or relationships that are contributing to your symptoms, and develop coping strategies to help you manage these problems more effectively.

Psychodynamic therapy may be the change you are looking for.
Psychodynamic therapy (and psychoanalysis, a more intensive type of therapy) helps individuals get unstuck from painful patterns through insight and self acceptance. This goes beyond coping with symptoms, to making deep and lasting changes to your usual ways of feeling, thinking, and relating in the world.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
