It's been wonderful to see attitudes towards seeking therapy change over time. There should be no stigma in seeking help. We are all works in progress.
I like to work with those seeking to understand themselves and those around them better, those who are just trying to cope with the stressors modern life can bring, and those who want to find a better way to do things. You don't have to go through life in "hard mode." Everyone has different goals in therapy and I'm here to support you.
i also offer clinical supervision towards LCSW licensure in PA.

Claiming My Voice with Jennifer Hendler, LCSW
Clinical Social Work/Therapist, MSSW, LCSW

Are you stifling your voice? You want more in your relationships and know you have a powerful purpose. You just can't shed feeling like you're never good enough. Even with all your success, you end up people-pleasing, over-giving, and paralyzed by fear. You get ill, anxious, and depressed. It's unsustainable to keep silencing yourself, pushing through, and settling. For 25 years I’ve been helping women overcome these struggles and boldly claim their voices. Women who claim their voices know their worth, trust their inner wisdom, create incredible relationships, and use their gifts to make a profound impact on the planet.

Starting therapy is a big step and I like to demystify the process. Drawing on tools from cognitive-behavior therapy and positive psychology, I help people approach their current difficulties in a structured and collaborative manner. We'll talk about how you feel, but also discuss concrete strategies to help. I work with individuals with depression, anxiety, stress or relationship issues. Coping with acute and chronic illness is an area of particular interest. I also work with people who are feeling stuck or overwhelmed in either their personal or professional lives with the goal of not just getting by, but flourishing.

Looking inward isn’t easy. It takes hard work to look at the stuff that keeps getting in the way of having the life you want. Often times it’s fear, other times it’s something more concrete. No matter what barriers you’re facing, together we can work through the fears and accomplish your goals. When we’re suffering from a loss, fighting a personal battle, processing a difficult childhood, facing a scary diagnosis, or other major life transition we all need support to have someone to walk along side us, see the light when we cannot, and hold us until we’re on the other side.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
