Choosing to begin psychotherapy can start with a feeling that there is more for you to discover, a greater balance to achieve, or a challenge to work through. In the safe accepting space of therapy, a healing process can evolve at a pace that is supportive and comfortable for you. I encourage people to approach their inner work with gentleness, perseverance, courage and compassion. I offer psychodynamic, mindful, cognitive and trauma-informed care to individuals, pairs and groups, including independent teens (only). I value and practice a thoughtful, culturally aware, and collaborative approach to our work.

An empathic therapeutic relationship offers a safe and confidential space to sort through confusing thoughts, explore painful emotions, and process acute and complex trauma. By looking thoughtfully at your earliest relationships and formative experiences, we will seek to understand how you currently interact with others and cope with life’s difficulties. The goal of our work together will be to foster self-awareness and build your capacity to live a life of curiosity, creativity, vitality, and connection. It is my hope to offer the process of healing as a transformative experience of feeling truly known.

I view therapy as an opportunity to build a meaningful life. This can be through either discovering new meaning or recognizing meaning that's been there all along. In building therapeutic relationships, I aspire to form genuine, authentic connections with patients. My specialities include working with those experiencing existential anxiety or dread, those with complicated grief, trauma survivors, those with persistent suicidal ideation, and those who use drugs and aren't interested in abstinence.

Issues we can address include depression, anxiety, grief, recovery from trauma, coming out, and a disordered relationship with food.
Puzzled when you do things that you don't like? Struggle with life stressors that get in the way of optimum functioning? Wonder if things that happened long ago are keeping you from being your best self? Life doesn't have to be so hard. Working together in an atmosphere of safety and respect I support you to make life changes, let go of ineffective behaviors and shift relationship patterns. We all have an inner wisdom that guides us to right decisions and health. I help you work with the parts of you that get in the way of this inner wisdom.

I work with people navigating challenges such as stress, anxiety, depression, relational struggles, familial trauma, low self esteem, chronic illness or mind-body issues who are looking to cultivate a life that feels authentic, peaceful and fulfilling.
I view mental health holistically and specialize in weaving traditional talk therapy with mind-body practices like meditation, yoga and wellness tools so you can find balance and nurture a deeper self connection. In addition to individual therapy sessions, I also offer holistic coaching courses and workshops. By incorporating the body into the therapeutic dialogue, we'll explore root causes of emotional distress while also promoting sustainable lifestyle changes for long-term wellness.

Deciding to start therapy takes a huge leap of faith and I have tremendous respect for anyone willing to brave it. I'm always inspired by my clients. For the past 10 years, it has been my privilege to serve people in a wide range of settings and listen to the stories of their lives. I am repeatedly stunned by how little acknowledgment people in pain give themselves. Most of them don’t look like they’re suffering at all to the outside world. But that’s not how they feel inside.

If you're struggling with a lack of fulfillment, pervasive feelings of anxiety, depression, sadness, or guilt, you may be a good candidate for therapy. Reaching out for help can be daunting, especially if you've been conditioned not to admit difficulty or hardship (as most of us have!).

You've probably been to a therapist before, and it hasn't quite felt right. Or maybe you liked them, but felt disconnected from their approach. Felt that there was a way to work more deeply with your emotions, but your therapist wanted to talk about your thoughts, and give you homework. Felt really bogged down in the details, and the negative, of what's been going on in your life. Haven't really laughed.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
