In addition to individual psychotherapy, I provide clinical consultation grounded in my study of object-relations psychodynamic therapy.
An empathic therapeutic relationship offers a safe and confidential space to sort through confusing thoughts, explore painful emotions, and process acute and complex trauma. By looking thoughtfully at your earliest relationships and formative experiences, we will seek to understand how you currently interact with others and cope with life’s difficulties. The goal of our work together will be to foster self-awareness and build your capacity to live a life of curiosity, creativity, vitality, and connection. It is my hope to offer the process of healing as a transformative experience of feeling truly known.

I would describe my orientation to doing therapy as psychodynamic and relational, although I may use techniques from a variety of schools of thought depending on a person's needs.
Psychotherapy can be a powerful and transformative experience. I believe that psychological healing occurs within the relationship between patient and therapist. Together we will seek to explore and understand your life experiences, thoughts, and emotions, with the goal of helping you experience your world in a new way.

Choosing to begin psychotherapy can start with a feeling that there is more for you to discover, a greater balance to achieve, or a challenge to work through. In the safe accepting space of therapy, a healing process can evolve at a pace that is supportive and comfortable for you. I encourage people to approach their inner work with gentleness, perseverance, courage and compassion. I offer psychodynamic, mindful, cognitive and trauma-informed care to individuals, pairs and groups, including independent teens (only). I value and practice a thoughtful, culturally aware, and collaborative approach to our work.

However, I am also trained in cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic approaches, and tailor my approach to the needs of the individual.
I view therapy as an opportunity to build a meaningful life. This can be through either discovering new meaning or recognizing meaning that's been there all along. In building therapeutic relationships, I aspire to form genuine, authentic connections with patients. My specialities include working with those experiencing existential anxiety or dread, those with complicated grief, trauma survivors, those with persistent suicidal ideation, and those who use drugs and aren't interested in abstinence.

I offer psychodynamic therapy, which can help you find peace and self-acceptance through an exploration of what causes you pain.
Do you feel sad, anxious, or isolated despite your best efforts? Or do you find yourself thinking that there must be one magical solution to all your problems, though it feels forever out of reach? If your attempts to solve your problems and soothe your pains aren't taking you far enough, I can help you move toward a more peaceful life. I enjoy helping people who struggle with feeling like their emotions are “too much,” either for themselves or the people around them. I have an affinity for working with LGBTQ+ individuals, immigrants, and children of immigrants.

If you're struggling with a lack of fulfillment, pervasive feelings of anxiety, depression, sadness, or guilt, you may be a good candidate for therapy. Reaching out for help can be daunting, especially if you've been conditioned not to admit difficulty or hardship (as most of us have!).

You don't have to struggle through each day, or learn elaborate ways to manage your symptoms - that's exhausting & not a way to live. As an AEDP clinician, I help us create safety to allow your emotions to be felt and expressed, together. We’ll quickly get to what’s bothering you, addressing your most pressing concerns first, and you’ll learn strategies to enable you to have some relief. As you feel better, emotions are uncovered, acknowledged, and felt. I am interested in developing our relationship, which provides a grounded place to explore your concerns together in a respectful and collaborative way.

Deciding to start therapy takes a huge leap of faith and I have tremendous respect for anyone willing to brave it. I'm always inspired by my clients. For the past 10 years, it has been my privilege to serve people in a wide range of settings and listen to the stories of their lives. I am repeatedly stunned by how little acknowledgment people in pain give themselves. Most of them don’t look like they’re suffering at all to the outside world. But that’s not how they feel inside.

Pursuing therapy represents a desire to heal. Whether dealing with a new challenge or an old wound, my work with clients is focused on supporting the process of healing and learning to "let go" of the harmful patterns that get in the way of feeling satisfaction, peace, and fulfillment in our lives and relationships. As a psychotherapist, my goal is to create an environment in which you can pause, reflect, and feel supported in acknowledging the emotions that many of us learn to avoid, dismiss, and push down.

On the outside, you may look as if you have it all together, but on the inside, you may struggle with feelings of self-doubt, shame, and loneliness. I specialize in empowering teenage girls and women to be who they are and discover and accept their intrinsic value. Grounded in a climate of warmth and acceptance, clients explore feelings and identify thoughts and patterns that may be preventing them from getting what they want. I believe therapy works best as a creative partnership where clients discover their own wisdom, gain a sense of personal power and find a purposeful direction.

I believe an important part of the therapy process is developing a flexible and collaborative relationship in which the client feels safe to explore, understand, and change relationships and behaviors, so that he or she may grow in a satisfying, creative, and life enhancing way. I have worked as a clinician for over twenty years and maintain a general practice for adults, families and children.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
