I work with individuals, couples and families dealing with many challenges; adjustment disorders, parenting issues, addiction, anxiety , depression, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, issues regarding separation and divorce, bereavement, and stage of life changes.
Maybe you have never gone to a therapist before and you are nervous about taking the next step? Maybe you have been to several therapists but feel you just didn’t connect with him/her and you are trying again? Either way, you are at the point where you feel yourself spinning and you know you need something or someone to help you, your relationship or your family to feel connected again. You may know exactly where you started to disconnect or possibly things have gone so off track for so long you don’t know where or why you ended up here, looking for a therapist? Whatever brings you here today, I am here for you.

I view therapy as an opportunity to build a meaningful life. This can be through either discovering new meaning or recognizing meaning that's been there all along. In building therapeutic relationships, I aspire to form genuine, authentic connections with patients. My specialities include working with those experiencing existential anxiety or dread, those with complicated grief, trauma survivors, those with persistent suicidal ideation, and those who use drugs and aren't interested in abstinence.

Studies show decreased symptoms of anxiety , depression, stress and ADHD as well as improved immune system functioning.
On the outside, you may look as if you have it all together, but on the inside, you may struggle with feelings of self-doubt, shame, and loneliness. I specialize in empowering teenage girls and women to be who they are and discover and accept their intrinsic value. Grounded in a climate of warmth and acceptance, clients explore feelings and identify thoughts and patterns that may be preventing them from getting what they want. I believe therapy works best as a creative partnership where clients discover their own wisdom, gain a sense of personal power and find a purposeful direction.

I provide individual and family-focused therapeutic services for children, adolescents, young adults, and parents. My strength-based approach is based on a belief that we all, young and old, have the internal resources to meet challenges, although sometimes we need support to discover, access, and develop those resources. I work with children and youth who may need support navigating relationships, coping with anxiety or depression, or who are having trouble balancing the demands of everyday life.

If you're struggling with a lack of fulfillment, pervasive feelings of anxiety , depression, sadness, or guilt, you may be a good candidate for therapy. Reaching out for help can be daunting, especially if you've been conditioned not to admit difficulty or hardship (as most of us have!).

Taking on change is hard work and takes a tremendous amount of courage. I value building a strong therapeutic relationship and providing a non-judgmental, empathetic, and safe space in which you might explore the problems and stressors in your life. My goal as your therapist is to help identify what prevents you from feeling good and accomplishing your goals, and finding ways to address these difficulties. Together, we can identify and nurture your strengths, and find hope and peace and change within suffering.

You've probably been to a therapist before, and it hasn't quite felt right. Or maybe you liked them, but felt disconnected from their approach. Felt that there was a way to work more deeply with your emotions, but your therapist wanted to talk about your thoughts, and give you homework. Felt really bogged down in the details, and the negative, of what's been going on in your life. Haven't really laughed.

Are you feeling disconnected, depressed, lost or confused with your life? With demanding relationships, work, school, and other responsibilities, it is rare that we feel we can save any energy for our own mental and emotional needs. In therapy, I foster safe, confidential, and supportive relationships so you may become an insightful observer and active participant in your life. I work within a mindfulness based perspective in which I place an emphasis on the here and now, focusing on what you want to address.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
