I draw from EMDR, CBT, Schema Therapy, relational-cultural therapy, interpersonal process work, DBT-informed skills, and humanistic therapy to help clients process trauma, reduce anxiety, strengthen insight, and shift painful patterns that no longer serve them.
I work with adults navigating trauma, anxiety, ADHD, identity exploration, chronic illness, chronic pain, life transitions, and the lasting impact of difficult relationships or emotionally painful experiences. I have a particular focus on supporting LGBTQIA clients, college and graduate students, first responders, and people living with chronic illness, invisible disabilities, or stress that others may not fully understand. Many of my clients come to therapy wanting more than symptom relief. They want to better understand themselves, feel more grounded, and build a life that feels more manageable and authentic.

In EMDR we will work on more gently processing trauma by working on skills to keep you safe and as comfortable as possible.
Your child’s challenging behavior has impacted every aspect of your family’s lives. Their temper tantrums, physical and verbal aggression, attention-seeking, and defiant behaviors are wreaking havoc on the whole family. Their behavior has even threatened your job because you’ve had to leave work to pick up your kid from school. Sometimes, you fear your housing situation may be in jeopardy since the tantrums get too loud or destructive. Plus, the behavior has put undue strain on your other children. You feel like you’ve tried everything to improve your child’s behavior. The situation feels hopeless and
you fear for their future.

True connection only happens when you let people into the places you normally keep hidden. If you’re a member of the LGBTQ+ community, you’ve probably been hiding a lot of who you are – maybe for a very long time. After all, if they can’t see you, they can’t hurt you. It’s a coping mechanism, but as you know, it’s not a viable long-term strategy for living a full, authentic life. You can’t experience intimacy and healthy relationships when you’re not fully showing up as yourself, which leaves you lonely, isolated, and disconnected. It’s no wonder LGBTQ+ individuals face higher rates of anxiety, depression, and trauma.

I believe that we are all going through something in our lives and that from time to time we need the help of someone else to get through particularly rough patches. This is where a therapist can be very helpful. I am a compassionate, Board Certified, Licensed Clinical Social Worker who uses a variety of therapeutic approaches to help my clients heal and grow. I provide both individual and family therapy for persons ages 9 and up. I use many different therapeutic approaches because I tailor the therapy to each individual client, based on their specific needs.

EMDR Therapists
Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.
Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.
What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.
What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
