Another one of my passions is providing evidence-based effective care for individuals suffering with
PTSD
, using Prolonged Exposure.
People have the innate ability to grow, change, and hold space for life’s experiences. I truly believe in each of my clients' ability to grow and change. My clients feel more empowered in their actions and relationships instead of letting their unhelpful thoughts and behaviors take over, while growing a more accepting and compassionate perspective towards themselves. As a woman of color, I am sensitive to the ways that identity and mental health impact each other. I take an action-oriented and direct approach. I aim to "work myself out of a job" by motivating you to take positive steps both in and outside of the therapy session.

I offer a warm, safe and supportive environment to explore whatever brings you to therapy at this time.

I come alongside my clients as I bear witness to their pain, struggles, healing and growth. I am always amazed at the resiliency and strength I see in people. What I appreciate about counseling is that it is both a SCIENCE and an ART. We know of interventions and strategies that are proven to work...so I implement those. However, the art, shows up in unique ways, such as how language, images and personalized goals are used.

I have extensive experience working with Mood Disorders,
Trauma
,
PTSD
, Anxiety Disorders, Mindfulness, Adjustment Disorders, and Personality Disorders.
I have over twenty years of experience working with people, 18-elders. I believe that therapy is an adventure, where one chooses to go, regardless of not knowing the way. Through the relationship this awareness is brought together by truth, compassion, humor, and some pain. The therapist serves as a guide, modeling and teaching the individual a more effective way of living. I see the individual as someone with a whole life that exists beyond the therapy session. The relationship, which fosters hope is a non-judgmental environment, that underlies all the work that is undertaken.

Navigating change can be scary and challenging. There are barriers that we experience that limit our ability to identify and implement the necessary changes needed. These barriers could include emotional and relational concerns, past and present
trauma
and socio-economic factors. As a licensed clinical social worker, I work along side people to overcome these barriers. Empathy, care and support is the core of what I do. I work to build a healthy therapeutic relationship and space of trust as we to work to learn ways to implement steps needed to achieve current and future goals and healing.

You’re caught in a cycle of 'shoulds': I should be happy. I should be grateful. I should be stronger. I should get over it. You worry that you’re a hopeless cause. Maybe you’re on the verge of giving up: Am I destined to live this way forever? Is healing even possible? Living with disordered eating,
trauma
, addiction, and loss is painful. Diet culture and body hate gaslight us into believing that we are not worthy. As a result, we shut ourselves off from relationships and experiences. We seek ways to numb the pain. In the end, we wind up denying ourselves the pleasure of living fully.

Life can come at you with full force leaving you feeling lost and alone. Living in a world with such high expectations can leave you questioning your thoughts, mind, and body. I want you to know that I hear you, I see you, and you are not alone. The pain of
trauma
(s), grief, and loss have made you question the meaning of your life and how you can move forward. Years of body-shame and disordered eating have left you feeling disconnected with yourself and the world. You feel defeated with the heavy burdens you have carried throughout your life.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
