I have over 10 years of experience working with individuals who have experienced anxiety , depression, mood symptoms & past traumas. Often times, you may fear being vulnerable. We are taught that if you are vulnerable, it is a sign of weakness, & you will end up hurt somehow. But what if I told you sometimes vulnerability is needed to heal! Through vulnerability, a person can take back the power that was once taken from them. It allows a safe and open space for one to express their thoughts, emotions & feelings & share past traumas or current life stressors in a nonjudgmental space that will help build resiliency and courage.

My specialties include: LGBTQ+, gender identity, life transitions, depression, anxiety , self-esteem, stress management and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
Welcome! You have now taken the first step in seeking out support and I know this may not have been easy. Finding time for self-care is so important, but often is first to go. Do you feel weighed down with general life stress, anxiety , depression, difficult life transitions, work issues, low self-esteem, relationship stress, LGBTQ+ specific stress or even coming into a new awareness of your gender/sexual identity? Have you found yourself struggling to focus on the present, having your past or future concerns pulling you in opposite directions? Perhaps you want to learn how to work with situations you face instead of fighting them.

Treating OCD and Anxiety disorders using Exposure and Response Prevention is my passion! Another one of my passions is providing evidence-based effective care for individuals suffering with PTSD, using Prolonged Exposure.
When people come to me, they're often carrying the weight of their obsessions, worries, burnout, trauma, and stress. Through our work together, my clients feel more unburdened in their lives and in their relationships with others. They learn to let go of their unhelpful narratives and behavior patterns, while they grow a more accepting and compassionate perspective towards themselves. As a woman of color, I am sensitive to the ways that identity and mental health impact each other. I take an action-oriented and direct approach, motivating you to take positive steps both in and outside of the therapy session.

Seeing clients individually and doing couples work are my 2 passions. I'm especially interested in working with clients who want to be involved in treatment and are active participants, as I am very straightforward in my approach. I have had a lot of success with clients who have relationship problems and individuals who struggle with overeating, mood, and anxiety . I am interested in helping people better manage stressors such as separation/divorce, grief, and career related issues.

I have a psychotherapeutic orientation, and am also trained in both cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness techniques. I work with the technique and orientation to fit the person--dealing with depression, anxiety , grief and loss. We all experience change and loss in our lives. Everyone copes in their own way and time. From the ending of a relationship, common life transitions (such as school, jobs, moving) to the death of a loved-one, change can sometimes be experienced as profound loss. And depression and/or anxiety can follow. I will help you go through a grieving process that will empower you. - Teresa Harrington, MSW, LSW

I have extensive experience working with Mood Disorders, Trauma, PTSD, Anxiety Disorders, Mindfulness, Adjustment Disorders, and Personality Disorders.
I have over twenty years of experience working with people, 18-elders. I believe that therapy is an adventure, where one chooses to go, regardless of not knowing the way. Through the relationship this awareness is brought together by truth, compassion, humor, and some pain. The therapist serves as a guide, modeling and teaching the individual a more effective way of living. I see the individual as someone with a whole life that exists beyond the therapy session. The relationship, which fosters hope is a non-judgmental environment, that underlies all the work that is undertaken.

I am passionate about helping clients that suffer from low self-esteem, anxiety , depression, PTSD, grief and loss, life transitions, and relationships.
I believe that everyone has the capacity to succeed in life and reach their full potential, but living in a world full of high expectations and pressure can leave you feeling lost and confused in your mind and body. The pain you endure through trauma, loss and grief, life transitions, and relationship issues can impact you in more ways than you can imagine. No one should have to go through these circumstances alone.

I offer individual therapy for anxiety , depression, adjustment concerns, grief and loss, and life transitions, and couples therapy.
Have you ever felt, "Why is this happening to me, I don't know who I am anymore!" Constant worrying, low mood, relational challenges, and life transitions can wear you down. Simultaneously, navigating multiple cultural contexts can challenge your values and world views, often creating dissonance about who you are. Within the mindful space of therapy, I can help you examine the nature of your worries, the frequent blues, your existing thinking style, responses to people and the world around you. Through collaboration, I can offer alternative ways of thinking and responding to challenges, and help develop an effective coping toolkit.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
