I tend to work with individuals and families with special challenges such as teens and seniors.
I have always worked with teens as it seemed to be a population others found difficult, but I liked the challenge. Now that I am a senior, I better understand the needs of our demographic.

You’re questioning everything, who you are, what you value, and how to live with meaning in a world that feels increasingly heavy and unpredictable. You may be navigating relationship changes or evolving dynamics, caring for aging parents while raising your own kids, or finding your place in a blended family. Maybe college is on the horizon, the house is feeling quieter, or your career no longer aligns with who you are. Even your understanding of sex, love, and connection may be shifting. These transitions can leave you untethered. You want to heal, grow, and become, reconnecting to your authentic self and finding the path forward.

Overwhelming worry and stress seem to follow you everywhere. You struggle to maintain focus, make decisions, and let go of things. Constant overthinking depletes your energy, leaving you irritable, restless, and on edge. The more this persists, the more dejected and hopeless you feel about it ever changing. You have tried coping on your own, but solutions that used to work no longer seem to help. You dream of a happier life – free from worry, present in the moment, and optimistic about the future – and wonder if it is possible. I know what these struggles are like, and I can help you restore hope in yourself.

They may be struggling with parenting a tween or teen or working effectively with their co-parent.
I work to meet each client where they are utilizing an eclectic approach to therapy so that it is tailored for them. I often pull from cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based, and family systems approaches. Therapy is an active process and sessions may be done individually, as a family, with co-parents, or a couple.

I’ve always been a natural listener who considers it an honor to sit with people in their pain. I offer a safe, supportive space where you can feel seen, heard, and deeply understood. I am gentle, easy-going, and compassionate in my care. I work well with those that want to take a deeper look at their thoughts, emotions, behaviors, longings, relationships, and past wounds. My approach to therapy is trauma-informed and attachment-based, with an emphasis on the role of the therapeutic relationship in healing. I integrate insight-oriented work with practical skill-building to support both emotional healing and symptom relief.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
