I view each child, teen , young adult, and family as unique. That uniqueness is why I draw from different therapy modalities to support emotional well-being. Anxiety and depression often stem from complicated interpersonal relationships, lack of self-confidence, and feeling unable to control events in our lives. Our joint effort can help you attain the freedom to make positive choices in your life. I bring clinical experience offered in a genuine, nonjudgmental, confidential atmosphere. Drawing from cognitive behavior approaches, insight therapy, and mindfulness practice, my goal is to provide tools to help you in improving your state of mind.

By joining me in therapy we will work together to address the patterns that have you/your teen feeling stuck and create change.
Are you struggling with difficult emotions? Feeling overwhelmed or stressed? Struggling with relationships or lashing out? When we are struggling sometimes these emotions come out as negative behaviors, i.e. dishonesty, anger management, aggression, & difficulty connecting with others. Have you ever noticed taking our struggles on those closest to us and/or anyone attempting to support us? Working with parents and teens together to understand one another, rebuilding these family relationships is my goal as your therapist.

At the essence of any strong relationship with a teen is the ability to make an authentic connection.
My individual therapy practice is geared toward helping families navigate the middle school and high school years. Parents are faced with many challenges today that can make raising teens more difficult than ever. I provide therapy for teens experiencing a problem - stress, worry, self-doubt, school problems, social or academic pressure. With a career in public education and working with kids of all ages, my strategies to help teens are designed to engage them in their therapy.

When people come to me, they're often carrying the weight of their obsessions, worries, burnout, trauma, and stress. Through our work together, my clients feel more unburdened in their lives and in their relationships with others. They learn to let go of their unhelpful narratives and behavior patterns, while they grow a more accepting and compassionate perspective towards themselves. As a woman of color, I am sensitive to the ways that identity and mental health impact each other. I take an action-oriented and direct approach, motivating you to take positive steps both in and outside of the therapy session.

I come alongside my clients as I bear witness to their pain, struggles, healing and growth. I am always amazed at the resiliency and strength I see in people. What I appreciate about counseling is that it is both a SCIENCE and an ART. We know of interventions and strategies that are proven to work...so I implement those. However, the art, shows up in unique ways, such as how language, images and personalized goals are used.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
