Imagine your ideal client. They come to therapy struggling with deep emotional wounds rooted in childhood trauma, possibly from growing up in a dysfunctional family or battling addiction. They seek clarity, healing, and personal growth. Their goals are to build self-esteem, set healthy boundaries, and cultivate meaningful relationships. They are motivated by a desire for inner peace, self-acceptance, and breaking harmful generational patterns. With guidance, they want to understand themselves better, heal old wounds, and create a life aligned with their values and purpose.

My focus on men of color, particularly Black and Latino men, has allowed me to cultivate a deep understanding of their unique experiences.
Some have shared: 'This growing awareness feels strange. Like emerging from fog, the world is sharper. Wonder and apprehension mix. Who am I becoming? Familiar patterns now seem confining. I yearn for authenticity, a life aligned with my true self, but the path is uncertain. It's a daunting yet exhilarating self-discovery journey to embrace my fullness.'

As a male therapist in the Stroudsburg and adjacent communities, I assist individuals with addressing the many challenges that persist in our environment, and that promote unexpected, overwhelming stress.
As a professional helper, I assist individuals, couples, families and organizations. Because I believe in the power of the family unit, I also work with young children who exhibit serious behavioral problems and attitudes toward their parents and caregivers. The goal is always to restore the parental/caregiver relationship with kindness, love and compassion.

In today’s modern world, don't we owe it to ourselves to consider fresh, dynamic approaches to solve problems that evolved from a 1939 ideology? Over the last five years, I've dedicated myself to helping men, and women, powerful men and women– business owners, entrepreneurs, and executives like you regain control of their lives immediately.
As an individual who is in long term recovery, not only do I understand but I also know the importance of meeting my clients where they are in their journey. A fundamental aspect of my approach is embracing life's unavoidable hardships, those aspects we simply can't control. What we can take charge of, however, are our responses and actions.

As a man of color, I can certainly speak to (and attest to) the various intersections we find ourselves including the challenges of navigating life within these intersections.
Hi! I am Jonathan. I am a sex & relationship therapist who specializes in supporting people navigating various challenges including life transitions, parenting, fatherhood, ethical non-monogamy, polyamory, sexuality, intimacy, & challenging toxic masculinity. I work with individuals and couples. I believe that a safe space is a brave space. I do my best in crafting safety, which allows for self-exploration and healing at your pace. Please know that you do not need to be going through a life challenge or be in distress to talk to a therapist. Therapy is a valuable form of self-care and I can aid in strengthening your self-care goals.

I enjoy counseling male adolescents, men and couples.
I believe my non-judgmental and warm demeanor allows people to feel at ease and more willing to share issues that lead them to seek counsel. While I am trained in counseling theories and techniques, I believe using the Bible as the fundamental guide in exploring the emotions that often paralyze our daily lives and relationships. Self reflection, forgiveness, effective communications, healthy boundaries and expectations all play a role in finding a sense of peace within ourselves and our relationships.

Many of us experience recurring feelings of loss, being lost, not belonging, unshakable sadness, anxiety about future outcomes. We may have experienced trauma, tragedy, abuse as a child or as an adult, toxic relationships or substance abuse etc. If you are reading this you have survived it and I salute your resilience. However sometimes we struggle to feel healthy and wholesome again. The good news is that no feeling is FINAL. Feelings come and go like the weather based on the thoughts that spin around in our heads. The most efficient way to handle such uncomfortable feelings is to learn how to understand and manage our thoughts.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
