For 20 years, I have honed my style to support personal growth by helping individuals honor/understand his/her/their style as necessary for survival, while promoting development of newer/adaptive styles that enable meaningful relationships, enhanced self-confidence, meet challenges of aging, life-transitions, grief/loss, trauma, and anger management.
I place emphasis on our relationship as a way to gain insight into a person’s style of relating with others and being in the world. I utilize EMDR and resourcing skills to help individuals work through trauma and fixed-states. I specialize in multi-cultural populations, trauma, men's issues, and anger issues. I am trained to use EMDR and Gestalt approaches.

It is not possible to build a good home on a shaky foundation. This same principle applies to the life we build for ourselves. I work with people going through quarter-life or mid-life crises. We work together to help you heal and rebuild your foundation so that you can continue to build a thriving life. You could be a young adult who is struggling in relationships with parents, or a partner, or in your career. Or you could be a mid-life person struggling with marriage conflict, parenting clashes, or career trajectory. Or maybe you have addictions or habits that are poisoning your life that you want to get rid of.

I have 31 years of experience providing counseling. I use cognitive behavioral therapy, stressing that what we think determines what we feel and what we do. For many reasons, people learn unrealistic or destructive thoughts that cause them problems in their lives. Therapy works towards more realistic thinking, and avoiding old and destructive thinking. As I like to say, therapy is a conversation with a destination, and realistic thinking is that destination.

"Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words. Keep your words positive because your words become your behavior. Keep your behavior positive because your behavior becomes your habit. Keep your habits positive because your habit becomes your values. Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny." - Mahatma Gandhi Our thoughts and feelings are not determined by a situation, but by our perception and interpretation of the situation. By changing our thoughts, perceptions, and behaviors we can learn to respond in a positive way, maximizing our potential for a rich, full, and meaningful life.

I work with Addictions, ADHD, Anger, Anxiety, Bipolar, Communication, Depression, Grief, Hoarding, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Parenting Issues, Relational Issues, Breakups, Divorce, Dating, Self-Esteem, Work conflicts, etc.
Accepting NEW clients at my practice! Many people have had negative experiences with counseling, making them hesitant to seek help again. I love working with those who are uncomfortable with the idea of therapy. A client once told me "You should be a therapist for people who do not like therapy". I try to understand people on an individual level & adapt my skills to meet their needs. My goal is to provide a safe, comfortable, & nonjudgmental atmosphere. Therapy should not be simply "learning coping skills" to deal with negative feelings, it should involve working through the root of the problem to facilitate long-lasting change.

Anger Management Therapists
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
