Now accepting Individuals AND Couples for May! I focus on topics such as self-esteem, relational communication, shame, healthy relationships, and values-based living. I also work with clients who struggle with anxiety, depression, substance misuse, and experiences with trauma. I was trained in psychodynamic therapy, and so I adopt a more conversational and explorative approach to my work with clients. I believe that change and growth comes from healthy relationships - both with ourselves and with others. In this, I strive to use the therapeutic relationship as the basis for treatment.

As a clinician who specializes in relationship issues and self esteem , I am a focused, engaged and passionate helper. I work with my clients to explore self-defeating thoughts that contribute to their life challenges, with the intent of achieving a more balanced (and "fair") interpretation of themselves and their surroundings. As a classically trained cognitive behavioral therapist, I am a firm believer in the notion that past traumas play-out in our adult lives.

Whether you are interested in healing hurts from long ago or simply dissatisfied with the current state of life, therapy can help you learn to embrace, with joy and gratitude, the messiness of the human experience. I have a lot of experience with working with clients with anxiety, depression, and self-esteem challenges. Also, I have experience working with first responders and addictions. Teaching coping skills and helping clients to utilize their strengths is important to me because it allows individuals to feel empowered and competent. The goal is not to rely on me, but to learn to trust themselves and utilize new skills to manage their symptoms. It is very important to me to give space for persons of color to feel comfortable in exploring issues of race and issues specific to being a person of color.

I enjoy working with young adults into their 30's who are struggling with any level of anxiety or depression. As our world attempts to simplify through technology and continues to change, it brings with it a changing culture and way of life that is not always helpful for our mental health. This generation tends to put the world on their shoulders, but forget to care for themselves. The pressure to "be successful" and fit society's expectations is a lot to carry. Rather than just managing this anxiety, we can figure out what goals and mindset are truly your own.

My imagined ideal client may report challenges and self-esteem challenges, manifesting as low mood, unhealthy boundaries, people-pleasing behaviors, social anxiety, self-validation, or acceptance struggles. The identified needs include relational improvement, self-confidence, and insight. I highlight the process as aiding the client in identifying triggers and sources of depleted esteem, exploring thoughts and feelings regarding self, others, and the world, and processing maladaptive behaviors. I would journey with the client in unveiling core beliefs that impact esteem and work to recognize strengths and positive qualities.

I have experience working with individuals dealing with trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief, stress, self esteem , communication issues, intimacy, ADHD, OCD, and parenting.
I believe that warmth, understanding and compassion are the key to any successful and supportive therapeutic relationship and these qualities are the foundation of my practice. I have been providing counseling services to individuals, couples and families for a number of years in a variety of settings and one thing has always been the same; I learn something new from each and every client and the relationship that is built through the course of treatment is where the healing is created. I tailor my approach based on the needs of my clients and collaborate with them to identify their goals.

I am pre-licensed counselor working with clients seeking to change unhealthy life-style patterns attributing to feeling disconnected from intentions, core values, beliefs, character & self. Patterns and experiences may include anxiety, trauma, depression, relational and other adjustment concerns. The approaches used integrate holistic modalities with existing evidenced-based treatments & prior successes to create the client's fully equipped toolbox. These resources offer an empowering, non-judgmental approach toward sustained self-care removing the stigma of mental health being separate from body & spirit for whole self-wellness.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
