I am most fascinated with relationships, how our early attachment experiences influence how we form bonds with others, and manage the
relationship
with ourselves.
I'm a licensed psychotherapist and founder of Be Here Now Psychotherapy. I'm experienced in helping adult children of narcissistic parents, and those struggling to recover from narcissistic relationships. I also specialize in treating Borderline Personality Disorder(BPD), using a psychodynamic, family of origin lens. My overarching area of expertise is trauma, complex trauma and PTSD. I hold a certificate in Integrative Somatic Trauma Recovery. I believe healing is a holistic endeavor, and depth psychology can be integrated with somatic work to unite body and mind, and help us to know and befriend ourselves on a multitude of layers.

Together, we can work to gain a better understanding of what is troubling you and find ways to shift behaviors,
relationship
patterns, and perspectives to make life more rewarding.
Are your relationships strained or disappointing? Is it difficult to manage your thoughts, feelings, or behaviors? Do you feel stuck, worry, feel sad, or have thoughts that you’re not good enough? Whatever you are struggling with, you do not need to suffer alone. We can work together to change things that are not working for you. I provide a supportive, accepting, judgment-free space where you can heal and grow. The sadness and stress are overwhelming. You feel stuck & don't know where to begin. You've landed here because you want to feel better and think that talking to someone may help. Maybe someone important to you has died or you're struggling with a significant
relationship
or a life transition. Maybe you're feeling very alone. I specialize in grief and loss. Grief is a natural response to death & loss but this feels like a wilderness you have not explored before and you need some guidance. Are you interested in feeling less anxious and more settled & hopeful? You don't have to do this on your own.

I believe the most important
relationship
you have is with yourself, it has the greatest influence on your quality of life.
I have a collaborative approach; where actively working together to deeply understand you and your issues is the first step. Working together to understand and not judge the thoughts, feelings, beliefs and experiences that are contributing to your patterns is essential. Decreasing shame, and increasing self esteem, acceptance, and compassion, are integral aspects to therapy I offer, and necessary to reducing the internal conflict which so often fuels the problems and patterns. For therapy to be effective, it calls for a very active effort on your part, as well as mine.

All people have the potential to change, grow and find meaning. Trauma and grief can interfere with this process and cause you to feel stuck. Many challenges that bring people into therapy (for example,
relationship
issues, depression and anxiety), have their roots in unresolved trauma and grief. As an EMDR therapist, I will help you identify these connections and activate your brain’s own natural ability to heal. EMDR goes beyond the insight sought in traditional talk therapy. By resolving the underlying issues contributing to your problems on a deep, emotional level, we will bring about significant and lasting change.

People seek out therapy for a variety of reasons, such as to address an already identified concern, to develop a particular coping skill set, or to enhance self-confidence and quality of life. I work to establish a trusting therapeutic
relationship
within which a client can share their unique story with a felt sense of validation, empathy, and hope. I work collaboratively with clients as we bare witness to the client's lived experiences looking through a lens of compassionate curiosity and establishing empowered self-agency that leads to patterns of intentional action and overall well-being.

I provide therapy for individuals,
couples
, families, adults and children. I have worked with many different clients providing the support needed for change. My experience at various social service agencies, at a child and family clinic; and in a college clinic has given me the opportunity to work with many adults, children, adolescents and families. I find my training in marriage and family therapy is particularly helpful for my clients in that it helps individuals better understand their relationships with themselves and others in their life. I regularly look at the systemic process in relationships, and at attachment issues.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
