As a seasoned counselor, I have limited my practice to working with Christian women who struggle with anxiety as their primary issue, as well as those dealing with issues of self-worth, daughters of narcissists, spiritual concerns, and those dealing with complicated grief (I was a hospice counselor for 12 years).
You are probably looking at this site because you want something in your life to change. I provide counseling that brings hope, healing, and restoration to those who are struggling with life issues and who sincerely desire to change. Romans 12:2 tells us that we are all transformed by the renewal of our minds and it would be my privilege to come alongside you in that process. Using the latest research in neuropsychology, I will assist you to identify unhealthy thought patterns and behaviors and provide you with tools unique to your needs and learning style to create healthy solutions for lasting change.

I have worked extensively with adults experiencing depression, grief and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Many have experienced a scary event that has been very difficult for them to effectively deal with the feelings and nightmares. Clients also can feel very stressed due to issues of work, family, poor health, grief and loss, exposure to made disasters, abuse or domestic violence. Clients feel stress build up until it is difficult to function normally. There can be problems with sleep, anxiety, depression, panic attacks until it starts to interfere with daily functioning. When this happens, it is nice to talk to someone safe.

Children with challenging behaviors impact every aspect of the entire family’s lives. Temper tantrums, physical and verbal aggression, attention seeking, and defiant behaviors wreak havoc on families. Parents and caregivers feel like they’ve tried everything to improve a child’s behavior and may feel the situation is hopeless and fear for the child’s future.

We all want to be happy. We may feel stuck or face challenges. Getting support from someone on the outside, in the counseling or psychology field, can help you gain a new perspective. You can learn to make better choices, feel less anxious and feel more optimistic; find peace in the day-to-day. I strive to help individuals live up to their full potential by overcoming life obstacles. With sincere interest and a creative approach, I help people by focusing not only on the individual, but also the social and cultural dynamics that influence their well being.

Stress, worry, anxiety- It sucks. Like an unwelcome guest that just won't leave. It's paralyzing. You find yourself under pressure to make the right decisions and keep it all together all the time. That voice inside your head keeps nagging, "Why can't I just be 'normal' and stop worrying? Why is everything so hard?" You may carry the mental load of the household or feel like there's no time. On the outside, things may seem perfectly fine, but inside, it's a different story. Life feels like an impossible maze with all this self-doubt, constant worry, and the weight of expectations. You know you're capable, but it feels out of reach.

Imagine you are on a hike. It is warm and sunny at 70 degrees. You have your water bottle in hand, your sunglasses secured on your face, and your shoes tied. You and your friend have planned this trip together for so long and finally it’s here. As you walk, you begin thinking about that one text message you received and begin to question its meaning. Suddenly, you are no longer having fun; you are fixated on getting back to your phone. As your chest tightens, you go through the motions of the hike, not fully taking in the wilderness. Conversation falls flat because the tunnel vision has set in. What once was an afternoon

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
