It is said, if you love your job, you will never work a day in your life. I believe that I have found my passion, helping others recovery in their life's journey. I want therapy to be driven by your needs and goals, and it is essential to recognize and work with the reciprocal relationship between mental and physical health. I help clients identify and challenge their negative, maladaptive thoughts (and associated feelings) in order to then cultivate more positive, adaptive, and self-affirming thoughts - which leads to a more empowered, growth mindset.

Being an immigrant, I have been touched by people's stories of pain, love, joy, and suffering. I believe that through sharing our individual stories and allowing me in your space, to see YOU for who YOU are has a restorative power for growth and healing. So much of our pain happens in relationships to other people, and I believe it can be helpful to work towards healing that in therapy. My approach to therapy is to work through a collaborative, multicultural and attachment lens. I will sit and listen to you, and together we will embark on your journey of exploration so that you are not alone.

My practice is devoted to treating the full range of emotional and psychological problems that an individual may be experiencing from a psychoanalytic perspective. My goal is to enable clients to experience themselves in a creative way having shed the burden of maladaptive ways of relating to self and others and free of defensive emotional patterns. The way to do so, I am convinced, is to explore the past, present and future to clues to what enslaves, what is currently painful and what freedom as a gift of self promises.

While I treat a wide range of concerns, I specialize in helping clients heal from trauma. Trauma is defined as an extreme or life-threatening event that causes severe psychological distress. However, some types of trauma do not involve violence, death, or disaster, yet they can still have significant negative effects. Any event or ongoing situation that causes extreme distress, fear, helplessness, shame, or guilt may be considered trauma.

I see psychotherapy as a psycho-educational experience where you learn about yourself. This counseling process of self-exploration leads to understanding self-defeating thinking and behaviors that may keep you from actualizing potential for successful relationships, success in business and career and from having a really happy life. During the years since I have been a licensed psychologist, I have had the privilege of helping many individuals and couples to achieve a happier, emotionally healthier, and financially successful life. My patients describe me as being a no nonsense person, while at the same time being warm and comfortable.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
