Accepting new clients! I help people overcome difficulty and use it to grow and pursue a life of meaning and purpose. Sometimes we start by treating stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, career, or LGBTQ+ and other identity issues, and over time turn to deeper issues about the life you want to create, your identity, and your values. I’m a humanistic counselor, which means I’ll never tell you what to do and I’ll always empower you to make the choice that’s best for you. I use a collaborative, gentle approach that helps you connect with your intuitive sense of self and your intrinsic motivation to grow and do difficult things.

Hi, I’m Vivian Bruno, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I work best with people who are outwardly capable but inwardly overwhelmed. Most of my clients are the ones who 'have it all together' for the rest of the world—the reliable coworkers, the supportive friends, the pillars of the family. But privately, you’re exhausted. You’ve likely noticed that you’re stuck in a cycle: maybe it’s the same relationship dynamic that keeps falling apart, a level of burnout that sleep won't fix, or a lingering grief that has made your world feel small.

You might feel like your emotions go from 0 to 100 fast—like you’re overwhelmed, reacting in ways you don’t want to, or struggling to feel in control. Maybe you’ve tried to cope, but nothing really sticks, and it’s exhausting. If you’re dealing with intense emotions, self-harm urges, or suicidal thoughts, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to figure this out by yourself. I aim to create a space where you can be honest about what you’re going through without judgment, where we can make sense of patterns that feel confusing or hard to change.

Life is full of challenges that can make or break us. If you’re feeling stuck, we can work together to turn adversity into opportunity for growth, change, and healing. Our thoughts greatly influence the reality we experience and can perpetuate the cycle of negative thinking when distorted by depression and anxiety. We will explore obstacles holding you back from finding contentment, identify goals to promote the change you want to see in yourself, and build upon strengths you naturally possess to develop resiliency for the future.

If you are a Christian and have struggled in the mental health space it may because one thing has been missing. Often we forget that we are made up of both body and spirit and soul and so we need to do our healing with that in mind. I believe that the ultimate healer is Jesus and so it is important to me to provide therapy that is both clinical in nature and Spirit led. The Holy Spirit knows more than we do and He knows what is going to help us heal and He will help with the process when we let Him. So if you have tried therapy before and it wasn't quite right lets try a different approach with a Spirit led therapist.

My ideal clients are individuals and couples who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or emotionally exhausted. Many are used to being strong for others but struggle with anxiety, trauma, or relationship challenges. They often come to therapy when their usual coping strategies are no longer working. I help clients slow down, understand their patterns, and build practical tools for change using approaches like IFS, CBT, and trauma-informed care. For couples, I also offer co-therapy with my wife to support communication, emotional safety, and connection.

FAQ - About Therapy for Seniors
Is one ever too old for mental health therapy?
Individuals of all ages can benefit from mental health therapy. Indeed, older adults in particular may benefit from the social and psychological support a therapist can provide; the topics that older adults address in therapy may simply differ from those of younger clients. Seniors should seek out a therapist who has experience working with older individuals and who is well-versed in addressing common concerns among elderly individuals, such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, and physical mobility challenges.

How is counseling for seniors and the elderly different from counseling for other age groups?
In general, counseling offers an opportunity for clients to process difficult life events and develop coping skills they can use outside of the therapy session. Therapists who specialize in working with elderly clients generally have the same framework but may place a special emphasis on specific topics, such as caregiver relationships and reducing loneliness. They may be specially equipped to deal with certain physical conditions or facilitate discussion surrounding end-of-life topics. Counseling for the elderly may also place a greater emphasis on social work-type topics to ensure that geriatric clients have access to necessary resources, such as food, a safe home environment, and healthcare.

How can therapy improve the quality of life of aging individuals?
Therapy for aging adults can greatly improve quality of life by providing an opportunity for them to process difficult emotions related to end-of-life, navigate relational or caregiver challenges, and develop coping skills for common mental health conditions, like anxiety or depression. Subsequent reductions in negative emotions and mental health disorder symptoms can make day-to-day living much more manageable for aging adults and those that care for them. The ongoing relationship with a trusted therapist can also help seniors combat loneliness and provide a sense of structure for their routine.

What are the qualities to look for in therapists who see seniors?
Seniors counselors, like mental health counselors in general, should be kind, empathetic, skilled at listening, and knowledgeable about their particular area of expertise. Counselors specializing in working with the senior population should be very familiar with the aging process in general and the common conditions that the elderly can face, such as dementia, depression, loneliness, and/or physical illness. Many senior counselors are also well-equipped to help caregivers and families navigate the aging process of their loved ones, and they may draw on Interpersonal Therapy to help facilitate improved interactions between seniors and those that care for them.
