I enjoy working with clients who want to get to the root of their struggles. These clients would like to gain insight into their symptoms, something difficult that has happened to them or to explore cycles and patterns that aren’t serving them. The clients I see often have attended therapy in the past. The clients I see also often present with attachment-based traumas, symptoms of post-traumatic stress, and difficulties in their personal and work relationships.

A strong and trusting therapeutic relationship is the first step in making positive and healthy changes. I'm a strong believer in the quote, "You grow through what you go through." By providing a safe and affirming space, I work with and support children, adolescents, and young adults, alongside their families, to be the expert on their lives while supporting and guiding them to take initiative to heal and make healthy, long-term changes. I take a trauma-informed approach with all clients and utilize techniques and principles from CBT, Narrative Therapy, Reality Therapy, Play Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy.

My ideal client aims to engage in an active partnership to build self-awareness and take action to make a change. I will give you feedback and challenge you, which is not everyone’s cup of tea! I work best with those suffering from anxiety, panic attacks, overwhelm, trauma, or emotional flooding. Many of my clients report that our work helped them shift from survival mode to a sense of thriving. I suggest homework; your progress is based on your willingness to practice. The ideal client for my strengths is someone who wants to learn and shift by discovering tangible skills and techniques they can use in their own lives.

At times life can present us with difficult or traumatic experiences that can feel too overwhelming to navigate alone. Working together, we can create a trusting therapeutic relationship in which I will utilize an individualized, integrative approach to therapy. Using a trauma informed strengths-based method to care, I approach each client by considering, “what happened to you?” as opposed to “what is wrong with you?”

Relationships aren’t always easy, especially our most important ones. In our lives, we are constantly responding to the influences of and affecting those around us. If you and your family, child, or partner have been struggling to connect, you're not alone. Many of us get stuck in patterns and, although we try our best, can't find a way back to the relationships we want. In order to find our way back, I believe in tailoring therapy to fit your individual needs by pulling from various treatment approaches. I have trained in Ecosystemic Family Therapy and worked with parents/families in the residential and family-based level of care.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
