Each member of your relationship, whether child, teen or partner/spouse will feel heard, understood, and, most importantly, accepted.
You might be asking, "How do I restore my connection with my loved ones?" In the complex dance of relationships, maintaining harmony can sometimes feel like an insurmountable challenge. Particularly within the family unit, whether between parents and children or partners, it’s not uncommon to feel disconnected, despite your best efforts. Rekindling love, intimacy, and warmth in these relationships is within reach.

As a trauma therapist, I work with women identifying folk and children affected by traumatic experiences. My practice is rooted in the understanding that our self-perception & relationships with others are profoundly influenced by social norms. I extensively work with folks as they navigate complex & developmental trauma, dissociation and the psychological toll of living in a society that often devalues and distorts non-dominant identities. In therapy, I strive to create a collaborative, affirming space for folks to unravel these layers, connect with their body, voice and self-worth, and facilitate healing on their terms.

I have experience working with teenagers and young adults who have struggled with anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation/self-harm, and low self-confidence.
I want to support you in living your best life! Living with depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and poor self-confidence can leave you feeling lost and alone. Together, I want to support you in being able to find your path through life. As a registered dance/movement therapist (R-DMT), I believe in the mind/body connection and the importance of somatic practices joined with cognitive approaches, such as dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). While I am a DMT, there is never an expectation or pressure to move your body or dance within my sessions. We will take time to explore your emotional experiences within and throughout your body.

The world can feel overwhelming at times - hardships, losses, grief, vices, behaviors, and intrusive thoughts; we white knuckle it. Sometimes, we shut down, unsure how to move forward. During my clinical training, I’ve used music therapy to help clients find inner resources and rise above these challenges. My background in mental health and acute psychiatric care equips me to assist people aged 15-65+ with issues like depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, loss of meaning, psychosis, and mood disorders. As said by John O’Donohue: “Music is what language would love to be if it could.” It often expresses feelings better than words!

Teen Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
