I believe that everyone is a celebration of life. You are a celebration of life. My goal is to help you recognize exactly what you have to offer the world and, more importantly, to help you learn to celebrate yourself. My path to becoming a therapist started early. I was born with a congenital heart defect and was adopted as a child; these experiences gave me a unique perspective on resilience and the need for support. Working through that in my youth is was lucky enough to have the support of a wonderful doctor who helped me navigate my mental health. That experience sparked a calling in me to serve others as I'd been served.

Sometimes life challenges get all of us to a point where we can benefit from someone to talk to without fear of judgement. Seeking therapy I believe is one way of trying to make sense of things during these times and can in many cases be an experience that not only gets you through your current situation but also assists in building things in you that can help you navigate future challenges. If you are currently finding yourself in that situation or just need someone to help you process some things in your life, challenging thoughts, or feelings I would honored to assist you.

If you’re a young adult struggling or a parent watching your child slip under the weight of anxiety, depression, or confusing behaviors, you’re not alone. These seasons can feel isolating and overwhelming. Many people carry quiet shame, guilt, or the belief that they should somehow be handling it better. The truth is, no one chooses hardship, and no one was designed to face it alone.

Children and adolescents with learning differences can often have a tough time at school and in their communities. Understanding information in the classroom when being taught can be as tough as dealing with relationships. This presents a variety of expectations that require attention to detail, focus, and planning that are often difficult for diverse learners to handle effectively without help. These challenges are similar to what adults face when navigating work, family, and overall life demands. I value all people with learning differences, and I advocate for all by helping foster skills that make people prosper.

Suppose you returned home one night to your "empty" house on a corner to find the door smashed open, and sounds of someone inside and things falling on the floor. Afraid, you walk around the corner where your neighbor then tells you she saw smoke coming from your window and the firemen are inside finding the cause. Your attitude toward the intruders completely changes when you understand their purpose. I give clients similar insight about the problems hurting them and their relationships. It's tragic to suffer and to fear solvable problems because you don't understand them.

Above all, people need to know that you care, and that you know how to help them. I provide both of these, by building solid rapport with my clients, to show them what is perhaps the most important aspect of counseling- that they have a therapist who is someone who wilI truly listen to them, show them empathy, and be a sincere partner in helping them reach their counseling goals. My motto is "Anyone can be helped, after they realize that you truly care, and that they can trust in you." I provide treatment for a wide variety of mental health problems, including trauma, anxiety, depression, and mood disorders.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
