I enjoy working with clients with many different types of concerns or areas in which they would like to grow. I have been working with children, teenagers, adults, couples, and families since 2007. I tailor my treatment approach to each client and I believe that each client is an expert on themselves. I have assisted clients with many different reasons for coming into counseling, and only some of those topics are highlighted here.

In today's world, individuals and families often face formidable challenges. As an experienced LCSW, I harness the power of collaboration to navigate these hurdles. For an adult, it might be their spouse. When I treat children, their parents, primary care providers, and the school system all contribute to an exhaustive needs assessment. From this rich tapestry, we weave a bespoke treatment plan that accentuates your inherent positives. With our partnership, I hope we can empower your journey toward becoming your best "you."

Are you looking for a one size fits all model? If you are, we are not the therapists for you. Root to Recovery LLC is a group practice with over 13 years' experience working with children, teens and adults. Every family and individual story is unique. A one size fits all model does not work which is why we use person centered, trauma informed, approaches such as MI, CBT, ACT, narrative and talk therapies. Our therapeutic approach is empathetic, and client driven.

We are wired to connect with one another. And the nature of pain is that it can cause us to withdraw from those around us, including from ourselves. This is where I try to help; I take the art of listening seriously and recognize that being heard is a part of the therapy process. Experiences with depression, anxiety, relationships, substances and much more all impact & interfere with our ability to connect with others and with being comfortable with ourselves. If this is where you are, please contact me to see if I would be a good fit for you.

I am passionate in working with teens and young adults, who struggle with difficult life stressors and life transitions, trauma, substance use , depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder.
Do you experience mood swings, struggle with boundary setting, feel on edge, and have concerns within your interpersonal relationships? It can be exhausting battling these concerns on your own. My approach is to build a trusting, down to earth, and authentic relationship that is centered around you and your experiences. My hope is for you to feel comfortable to explore your concerns, so that solutions can be found collaboratively.

If you have tried therapy in the past with little success, please call me! I have over 20 years experience treating substance use and mood disorders, trauma and other complex issues.
Are you haunted by something in your past, hounded by negative self-talk, or feel stuck in some destructive pattern? Have you always felt a bit “different”, lacked a sense of belonging or haven’t ever quite fit in with society's “norms”? Are you highly intuitive, but can’t make sense of what your “gut” seems to be trying to tell you? Do you march to the beat of your own drum and often feel misunderstood by others? Have you recently had an “awakening” and need help “sorting everything out”? Perhaps you have always felt an inner calling but can’t quite figure out exactly what it is.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
